10 things ' so wrong'
by jkj on Jun 10, 2014 10:52 AM  | Hide replies

1. So wrong! Does it need to be quantified?
2. 'Rear' also refers to bums like backside. Other side or plain back would be better substitutes.

Rediff giving lessons on English? How absurd?!!
by Manajesh Bargava on Jun 09, 2014 11:29 PM  | Hide replies

I find it extremely ironical that Rediff is trying to teach its readers correct English... Anyway, few things Rediff is trying to point out as mistakes or wrong usages are actually not mistakes at all. "Do one thing" is a phrase that fits Indian context. There is nothing wrong with it. Moreover, there is no "one correct way" to speak English. Usage is different in different parts of the world and its all okay.... So Indians, feel free! You don't need advice from some stuck up idiot who has fancy degrees but little education to tell you what is right and what is not. Remember this, these people kept ridiculing you for using the word "prepone". Then Oxford added it into the dictionary which is pretty much making it an English word. And that's how English has grown over the years. And it will continue to do so and that's what makes it adorable!

You go through any Rediff article and you'll find at least 10 mistakes. And they are trying to correct others' mistakes (which are not exactly mistakes but idiosyncrasies). That's what I find absurd.

bad English

How can you say '...phrases that are so wrong' in your intro?
'wrong' is not a gradable adjective!!! Do you say 'the door is very closed' a thing is either right or wrong

Ditto! BTW is the touch itself soft, or is it the object of the touch that is soft?

some phrases people get used to...
You can find many in European emails.
We are not native english people (yeah yet an other one for you to pick up in next article).
we speak and write properly in our native languages.
Stop advertising and start indianizing.
You can become modern by also sanskritization, but you chose westernization.
And for all who ask "are we on moon or what"...yes, we are already. By becoming westernized, you are not seeing it

That's like saying "We Indians cannot drive well, and therefore we will create a nuisance and cause accidents. Why you say? Because it is the 'Indian' way, dammit!"
There is only one correct way to do anything. Don't use your faulty sense of deshprem to justify wrong things. The country will benefit from it.

"You don't know nothing" - that's the American way of saying "You don't know anything".
