Most of us mistake Concentration for meditation. I came to know the difference after reading the book "Meditation" by Osho. I strongly recommend this book. It was an eye opener for me. Either ways, both work magic on our body, mind and soul.
What actually happens when we concentrate/meditate, is that the seven chakras which are nothing but the seven endocrine glands, get into a mode where only the exact amount of hormones required for the body are secreted and brings a balance to the body, which in turn controls stress. All the best and happiness to all :)
Try Sahaj Yoga meditation. It is free of cost. Practised in more than 150 countries in the world. Medically and scientifically proven. Requires 5-10 minutes of your time in the morning and evening. Meditation, one cannot do. Meditation means awareness, a let go. One should be meditative. One should be initiated by a Master. I suggest ISHA YOGA. ZENANNAL
I can tell from my experience. Meditation has made me a calmer person. It has helped me deal with my emotions; certainly helps in 'anger management', as claimed above. It provides a different kind of satisfaction. No matter what stresses I may be experiencing, it always helps me feel better. Initially the mind wanders, as some of the posters below have said. But with practice things get better. You have to decide on something on which to concentrate; then keep concentrating on that, no matter what. Gradually the other thoughts move away; you have to give it time - can take weeks or months.

Lets practice medidation like our rishis' used to do, let the west open yoga centres at every mall, lets listen to indian music, instruments such as the peaceful sitar by pundit shri ravi shankar, tabla by zakir bhai, lets eat delicious Indian spices and praise our historical achievements like peaceful non violent ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi that even today many cannot understand. After doing all this, lets diss Hinduism and convert all Hindus
JAI SUNDARAM Apart from what ever has been written the following may be added Apart from the Health benefits have been enumerated,I would like to add (a) The Basic Metabolic Rate comes down thus conserving energy (b) develops power of tolerance (there is too much of nonsense and one has to develop lot of tolerance to live in this world) (c) power of expression/communication skills increase (d) power of understanding also increases and as such IQ and Productivity increase. (e) makes one a better citizen(I wish all politicians and Administrators undergo meditation course and practice it regularly) (f) Increases tranquility, sense of satisfaction and contentment in the family. Sincerely doing of ones job(thinking of others and of themselves or their family members)is a welcome bye product of meditation. If the schemers spend at least half an hour in the morning and evening, our country would would be a better place to live in. May I request who so ever reads this mail to practice meditation(there are many methods-they can follow any method)You will yourself appreciate the difference BUT be sincere.
