Not to lessen her on top of the world feeling, but..

This report shows India's obsession with single-point exams, ranks, etc. The GOAL, it seems is only to get a high RANK in some well-known exam. The title of FIRST RANK is the only thing Indians crave. Somehow

Let's consider the larger context: What does this mean? GRE is just ONE of the factors/criteria among many for admission into US engineering schools. Outside that single purpose, it has little meaning. Conversely, once an admission is secured, it's purpose is over. She might have a good GRE score, but when evaluating her admission many other factors too would play a big role. How is her undergrad reusults? Where did she graduate from? Did she do some extraordinary work or projects in engineering while studying? Did she do some research work and assist with some published paper?

Simply making a good GRE score the goal does not make her a better engineer, and therefore does not guarantee a good graduate school admission. All this will do is get her an edge over someone with equally similar achievements in everything else. If those are good, she can get a good admission.

So Indians as a whole, stop obsessiing over scores, ranks etc. for these qualifying exams and start concentrating on the underlying subjects and education. It is sad to to see an entire nation behaving like some houesewives obsessing over their kids exam scores and rank.
