I can't believe rediff has come up with something like this!! So SAD!! People of our country just need a spark to start a fight (be it region, religion, caste etc..)It is understood, given the huge and diverse population of our country. But media making use of it is heights of insanity. If I am wrong just look at the messages by our own brothers and sisters.. When will we overcome these differences? Will we ever be united?? I wonder if that day will ever come!! Why don't u people start thinking that we all belong to the same motherland. No city is bad in my country, they are all good in their own ways and vice versa. Love u my mother land. Finally just keep this in ur mind my fellow citizens. United We Stand Divided We Fall!! Jai Hind

Absolutely true,Mr. Rajesh.I was also shocked very much to see such an nasty comparison between cities. My dear friends, we all shall remember that it is our own work which make our environment good or bad.We should try our level best to be perfect ourselves and not blame any city/place which is part of our motherland.Everyone entangled in this unhealthy brawl should feel ashamed.

We need somebody and something to unite and chant 'Vande Matharam' and be one again. But I doubt whether we will come across such an icon in the immediate future.

Out of Mumbai, other side of Western Ghat, you will find a city called Pune inhibited by uncultured folks, rustic and manner less villagers and rowdies...

Personally the biggest issue that I faced in chennai is the weather. Water is an issue, but then even in Bangalore, it has started to become an issue and atleast the drinking water has to be purchased, in some places even the regular water is scarce.

Many cities stink. That can hardly be an issue. One has to say that the Mumbai metro corporation is more professionally managed than many other cities, for the amount of rain and population density, any other city would have collapsed, Mumbai is atleast holding on to dear life...
In Mumbai even the Marathi people speak Hindi. If you ask them for a particular place they will guide you in whatever Hindi they speak.People from other state feel comfortable as atleast they can communicate which is not possible in cities like Chennai,Banglore,Kolkatta where we are compelled to speak the local language.Even the sign boards are in local language.People in this states just hate Hindi language.

shows ur ignorance.... atleast in chennai all the sign boards are in english as well as tamil.. moreover marathi and hindi are similar with same roots.. so its naturally easy to follow the other.. will a mumbaikar understand tamil , assamese etc?

expecting everyone to speak in hindi is a itself a foolish thing. moroever if being compelled to speak in the local language is called shameful, then you dont deserve a place in india.

Such a foolish comment... If you cannot speak local language, speak English. The people in Chennai, Bangalore or Kolkata will guide you

language is just a mode of communication. The most important language is the language of human emotions, which all of us know but very few follow it.

Ramesh, your comment seems to suggest you have never visited down south. I have not visited Kolkata, but have lived in Chennai and Bangalore. Bangalore is the most cosmo city in India after Mumbai. It has significant presence of non Kannada speakers, and you can actually manage with knowing Hindi/English. While Its true that Chennai can be a little difficult without knowing the local language, much depends on whom you speak to. The poor man on the road, yes, he may not know any other language, but thats not case in malls, shops etc. Also, sign boards are atleast in English, and all central govt agencies have to communicate in Hindi as a rule. The big problem of many people in India is refusal to learn the local language. While I condemn Xenophobia in general, intolerance of outsiders to local language, sensitivities and customs do not help matters at all....

dear Ramesh
in calcutta Local connecting language is hindi..u speak to a bengali person and if he comes to know that u understand hindi,he will try for sure to talk to u in hindi, some of them are more fluent in hindi than people from hindi belt.
in Banglore offcourse signboard etc are not in hindi, but local people respond well in hindi, never an issue..
offcourse if u move in enteriors of villages then u will face a problem as for local villagers it's not possible to know and understand three langugae, local, english and hindi..
and if some one can talk to u in english ,then no harm ,langugae is just a medium to communicate..
do not insist for a particular langugage..just focus on things to be get done..
