It was war time for India when I joined my first job for Rs. 2200/- back in end of June 1999. Probably I worked 2 or 3 days in June and got a paycheque of around 250 of which i donated Rs. 100/- for Kargil war relief fund.
My first salary was 20000 Rupees when i joined RADO and TISSOT in the Year 2001.Well things have changed a lot.I wish everyone happiness and healthy living.
My 1st salary was Rs 2850 working as Software Programmer for ITC Bhadrachalam Paper boards. This was in 1997. Of that , Rs 400 was deducted at source as HRA . Used to get Rs 2450 in hand. When I received and saw my stub, that was one of the best moments of my life. Now, I am in US and make probably 100 times more than that. But, nothing can come close to the excitement of 1st pay check,

The moment I finished reading your 1st line, I guessed you are in US at the moment. And you didn't dissappoint me :)

Exactly right!
Rs. 300 salary even 15 years ago though not enough in anyway was a decent sum to get by if your food, clothing and shelter needs were taken care of.
This whole series of articles about first salaries is nonsensical as it does not take into account the time the first salary was earned and the standard of living at that time!
Try giving Rs. 300 to somebody today as a salary and see what happens!
