IIT Kanpur

We are only talking about an entrance test. It should be possible for a common entrance test and would benefit students enormously. IIT Kanpur or any other organisation can specify what level of marks they would consider as acceptable for them to admit a student.

Dear Sir,
Thanks for your very sane comment. While what you are saying is 100% correct the Government is not giving any kind of leeway to IIT's to decide cutoffs and weightages et al.they have been completely undemocratic. They adopted the report without even giving a chance to IIT's to comment or give their views. Please check these facts. I reiterate the report for ISEET was adopted without taking all stakeholders into confidence. If this does not show the ulterior motives of the Government. As for their spurious argument that this is going to check the coaching institutes or improve schooling the less said the better. we all know that problems with schooling run much deeper than can be even minutely corrected by an entrance exam.

Why this was done..
by Srinivas on Jun 11, 2012 07:24 PM  | Hide replies

1. IIT's staff were showing off as if they are kids of eistien.
2. 99 percent staff go on fake visiting faculty with all amenities and perks and they actually go there and serve MNCs, they earn both GOI's perks, IIT salary and salary from MNC.
2. Many IITians are resorting to cash for PhD now-a-days. There are many professors who demand 10-20 lacs for quick PhD degree.
3. IIT staff indulge in copying foreign university projects and present it here to get accolades.
4. Engg. education should be centrailsed and should be on mass media.

Hats off to Kapil Sibal for showing the IIT staff the place where they belong.

by your logic we should throw away this Government since it has already shown itself to be corrupt, inefficient and ineffective and run by remote control.

As IIT's belongs to India & only institutes with some excellence so far engineering education is concern but new format of JEE will dilute it's standard. In fact govt. is trying every thing to please people keeping in mind next election which most likely they will loose. Only option for serious parents to send their wards to good foreign institutes if they really want quality education. As Mr. Sibbal put his mind in IIT's exam.,in near future, these institute will be like any other road side institute. We know how govt. organization works & it's ethics. Hats off to congress. Mr.Srinivas have you ever seen IIT's teaching methodology ?

1. Please supply more evidence for point 1.
2. I am not too sure whether there are too many cases of those happening together. The cases where they do happen, it should be ok as long as it is not illegal and quality of teaching is not afected. The govt subsidy to IITs has reduced, so some industry collaboration always welcome.
3. On your copying, hard to generalize. AGain, if thats the case in IITs, do you have statistics for other univs?
4. Point 4: please be more specific on the means to do so. If it were easy it would already have been done. Engg education requires some level of interactive learning like any other course, thats the deterrent. Already books exist as some form of mass media.

On your last point, precisely one of the problem with this country, everyone is intent on showing others the place where they belong, even if the other person speaks from the place he belongs.

Kudos to IIT Kanpur
by outofstep on Jun 11, 2012 07:19 PM

IIT Kanpur has taken a bold decision to retain a test similar to JEE. At least there is one institute which has understood the nefarious designs of the Congress Government to undermine the IIT system thus paving the way for foreign educational institutions who have put a huge amount of pressure on the Government to open up the education sector. Kapil Sibal and co. by choosing to dismantle the IIT system have opened the way for the foreign jackals to come in and loot the Indian citizens in the name of so called foreign good quality education.

One of the reasons IIT's had such great brand equity was because they had a rigorous and fair selection procedure. The logical first step in destroying this is to first do away with JEE. Only then the way will be open for foreign educational institutions to come in.Kapil Sibal and his cohorts within IIT's aim to do just that. They have sold the country to foreigners.

The decision of IIT kanour will effect Unity in Diversity of India. The decision will bring lots of problems in future and there will be no control over the IITs in India. there will be no quality of education. there will be no competition among the IITs and money will play the game.

Finally someone tries to reform the IIT mess.
by kuttichathan mydear on Jun 11, 2012 05:32 PM  | Hide replies

The IITs have not lived up to its charter. It has become a a place to attract good test-takers that then leave the country to take tests abroad and become mid-level managers and paper pushers. There are a few exceptions BUT thats not the norm.
1. Why do IIT students not join IITs for further studies?
2. What have IIT grads (especially UG) and profs contributed to the country?
3. This reform attempt will open the college to a larger group of people than test-taking-crammers.

The resources the Govt of India puts in for technical excellence should be used better than produce MBA junkies.

Go Kapil.. Lets change this IIT failure.

Pretty sure your "Yawn" says it all... There is real need in the country for Technology and technologists.. IITs are producing test-takers that feel "achieved" when the JEE is over.. only to wait for the next test "GRE".. or CAT.. then sit around as high-paid paper pushers... Yawning. There must be more rigour in the selection process.. its good for the IITs and the students... Time to stop "yawning" on government expense and assuming everyone trying to change it is "sour grape"...

A lawyer or an Engineer??-Kapil Sibal -destroys IITs
by SANKAR RAMAN on Jun 11, 2012 05:11 PM

Unable to perform his own job it is amazing to understand why Mr Kapil is poking his nose into others' areas.. I appreciate IIT Kanpur for a bold decision. Other should follow suit. The UPA has already destroyed the IITS by introducing seats for BC/OBC etc as reservations. Am not against these people getting into IIT. Let them get into them with sheer hard-work and outstanding performance rather than getting into it through the back doors.Kapil pl do your work perfectly and let others also perform their works and make this country great. It is hiugh time you and other energetic( foolish) ministers shut their mouth and let the country move forward.
