Something seems fishy about all this. You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours? Ajit Balakrishnan has written a book recently, and needs help publicizing it... Chetan Bhagat writes columns in The Times of India, and his books are made into movies. That's a scenario made for a quid pro quo.
This is so clearly not an objective article. Chetan Bhagat might be fairly successful, but the CEO of rediff writing a piece eulogizing him, when all Bhagat is is a pulp fiction writer who will never win any literary awards, is way out of line.
Chetan bhagat is product of good marketing and thirdclass writing. Have you saw Rowdy Rathod or Singham or Dabangg, are those good movies or masala timepass ? They are hits like never before. But because they are hit can you compare them to the Hollywood flick like Ben-Hur or Godfather ( to just name a few) ? Can Chetan Bhagat by any means be considered as a Yardstick to look upon by future generation ? By comparing you have insulted the authors and readers equally. If you ever read the comments section, then please do retrospect and if you see any merit then apologize. One day, Mr. Nitin Gadkari, compared the IQ of Vivekanand and Daud Ibrahim. But yours article is actually worse than this. Shame on you.

actually, speaking of IQ, IQ of Vivekanand and Daud Ibrahim could be similar. who knows? have you checked ? Its no mean feat to run the largest underworld in the world, and to make into the worlds topmost wanted man.....its another matter that he may be using his superior IQ for wrong purposes....

Actually, it was the IQ of totally different type of person were compared. I havne't said that IQ may be different and anyways IQ doesn't matter always as such. But here the comparison is with Dickens and Bhagat, on the basis of same type of literature, language, means on same literary grounds. Hence I said the comparison seems more worse.

Dear Nishant, you are all in awe of the experts.
For a moment, step out of that shadow and read a Chetan Bhagat book yourself. You may be pleasantly surprised.
I abhored reading until I hit upon Revolution 2020 (his last fiction piece actually). Since then I have read almost all his books, liking 2 states even more.
The point is, do you want to read a literary genius, or do you want to read someone who simply entertains you.

Both of you, Indian and Aishwarya are absolutely correct.Chetan Bhagat simply relates to the common youth of India and binds us till the very end with simple and effective writing.
You compared Dickens to Chetan Bhagat. Bt that stretch Mallika Sherawat is like Meryl Streep, Rohan Gavaskar is as good as Tendulkar and me, dear Sir am the ruler of the universe! What a bumbling idiot! Rediff, please choose articles that dont make you look like ignoramuses!

please, people, please dont ridicule him and make him commit suicide....at this rate he surely would if he reads comments like these...please do not abet people into taking their own life.....You may be one big literati, but people like bhagat write for the MASS, and cLASS may bot hold much significance here.
chetan bhagat is just not dickens, but Shakespeare, Orhan pamuk, Leo tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Hemingway, salinger, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Beckett, kafka, joyce and many more combined together.....he is a wonderful writer and infact the best the world has seen since 3000bc....ofcourse ved vyasa and valmiki were ahead of him, though they didnt write in english...

@shikasharma....who cares what some self appoint critics had to say about CB, the fact of the matter is he is still remains the No. 1 bestseller
Have you read Charles Dickens MR. Balakrishnan? and then Have you read Chetan BHAGAT ? Is this your level of thinking on literature ? Why only Chetan BHAGAT ? is this a paid news ?
Chetan Bhagat India’s Charles Dickens. What a joke! Mr. Balakrishnan either you haven’t read the English legend’s writings or are commenting mindlessly. Recently I happened to read Bhagat’s ‘Revolution 2020’ which left me wondering whether the Indian writer knows English at all. I presume at least you know the ABC of the language!
the writer seems to say that the people react the way they do with in a context and one could understand their behaviour applying a bit of thought. The way he views Bhagat's books is interesting and now I understand why my nephews and young people seem to pick them up.. those deeply biased and scholastic seem to have a monochromatic view of things I heard ajit balakrishnan a number of times. He speaks well and always found his lateral views fascinating and illuminating..well read, he leaps across subjects and centuries with ease. Thanks Ajit, you provoke many people many ways :)
