The funniest thing I have observed is, the employer expects you to speak fluently in English but actually you never have to speak English in your actual Job. This is absolutely funny & it can happen only in India. Employers in India need to be Rational & straightforward. The Norms mentioned in this article are purely western & we need to really think in Indian perspective.
dear rediff stop publishing paid articles and playing with future of young indians. take a survey and you will get the right picture. there was a time where there was no attrition concept in india. This word attrition was not known. Whenever you try to copy other nations then this is what will happen. One size doesn't fit all. What works for USA & Britain may not work for India. Just 20 years back we had not so serious work related issues. But due to the hire and fire culture by private sector banks this mess has happened. This culture was soon adopted by all the private companies in india and see all are facing labour related issues. How many PSU's are facing HR issues? Very less when compared with private sector.

Resume is already with employer, if they can't take a print out of it. It shows how stupiid and un organized they are . You can reject the employer then and there.

The employer or interview panel is going to interviews with several candidates for the same position. It's waste of resources for employer to take a printouts and trash it after interview. Why can't an employee carry 3-4 copies of CV with him and hand this over to interview panel and collect it back and after the interview. It's your CV and you should treasure and reuse it.Always keep it handy. This is how it works in US interviews. Personally, I get hurt when my CV is thrown in trash or if it gets to the hands of any other person who is not part of interview panel.
If you fit the job and get it done, they take you otherwise not. This is how recruitment takes place. All these cosmetic things really does not matter for the employer.

Let me ask you this...During any invitations or religious occasions, do you dress appropriately? Dressing or other cosmetic things described here shows the sincerity of the candidate. During one hour of interaction, there is possibly no way for the interviewer to deduce whether you can get a job done...

@Healthy, you should see candidates turning up in jeans in IT companies for interviews and still getting selected based on their aptitude!!

That is only because Indian IT companies do not need much of an aptitude really for most of their positions and also because such positions are so very numerous now that the companies can no longer afford to be very choosy!
If there are lakhs of so-called IT professionals turning out each year from campuses and most of them getting employed, then it can only mean that too much aptitude is certainly not involved, is it?
As it has always been, where there are numbers, there is little true merit, is it not?
