I once stayed at a hotel in Cochin, named some Bugati palace or something

As I was going to my room with my wife, I turned around to see a waiter admiring her from a distance below the stairs

This is actually on Spot
by gaurav mishra on Sep 03, 2012 11:32 AM  | Hide replies

The article is on spot and I have felt the same way in few famous hotels like Mariott and Hilton. During a long stay in Hilton's hotel we saw that our toilet floor and pots are cleaned by maid by the used towels. Imagine we have to use the same next day, how hygienic is it? When I complained about it there was straight away 20% discount.

in history.

"The discovery of the sea-route to India by Vasco Da Gama led the British to come to India for trading" !!

Really ??

Was that really the reason?

Do you mean to suggest that there was no trade between Indian kingdoms and European nations before the discovery of the sea route round the Cape of good hope??

Now, when do you think the British first came to India for trading?

When did Vasco Da Gama arrive??

And the British came for pepper????

Really??

Now, where in India do you think the British come and set up shop first??

Where were they present in India for their trade initially??

And what did they trade in??

Pepper??

Or was it cotton, silk, opium, precious stones, etc.??

From where they set up shop in India (it was actually Surat on the Gujarat coast), could they trade in Pepper??

Look up a few history texts in a little more detail and then come back so we can continue our little debate!!

Indian Hotels are much better
by Deshbhakth Hindu on Sep 02, 2012 12:32 PM  | Hide replies

I have been to many places in India and I think Indian hotels are the best.
It is only that we think that we are inferior to others.

Good awareness Article
by R C on Sep 02, 2012 11:19 AM

This a good and awareness article. Being consumers, we should demand the services for what we paying for.

Unless, each user demands, hotel management will keep on doing such irregularities !!!!

food in a restaurant
by omprakash phadnis on Sep 02, 2012 11:19 AM  | Hide replies

About a decade back, I was going with my friend to Chennai. Near Mamanddoor there is a bus stop. In the restaurant there, I discovered that hot potatoes were peeled by a person by dancing bare feet over it. This was to be used in masala dosa bhaji. Eat only in good restaurant.

A leopard cannot change its spots, whatever it does !
by piri on Sep 01, 2012 10:53 AM  | Hide replies

A friend of mine who used to be a dealer in ice making machines in the 90s told me once that he noticed cockroaches in the kitchens of 'The Leela Kempinski' and 'Juhu Centaur' in Mumbai! In 'The Leela Kempinski', the insects were seen crawling around in the semi-darkness below the ornate and very very opulent counters on which all kinds of pastry making was being done! At 'Juhu Centaur', they were snugly massed together in one revolting group under an awning! He added that these sights will remain embedded in his memory and that he never feels the kind of silent longing most middle class Indian commoners do to visit, eat at or stay at five star hotels !

In this context, I remember reading how the management of a British hospital reacted when a cockroach was reported to be seen in one of its toilets. The patients were immedietly admitted in other hospitals, the doctors and staff were either laid off or given long vacations, the hospital closed and fumigated for three months at a stretch !!

The malayalam saying 'Kakka kulichaal kokkakilla' (a crow cannot become a crane try however it may) comes immedietly to mind given how the two scenarios compare !!

yes...Its a true fact....the advent of britishers to india was preceeded by the discovery of sea route to india by vasco da gama and he landed in Kerala navigating through capr of good hope in S. Africa...This led East INdia company to come to india for trading...and yes..pepper was the diamond then....My humble rquest to you, Piri" is not to suddenly refer somebody to ICHR panel and please think before doing so...good luck and wishing you a good day......

"Yes, they came to India through pepper trade along with cardamom and others" ??????????????

Really??

Was it the British or was it the Portuguese ???

?????

British or Portuguese ??

Please refer to any history text and come back and let us carry on our debate!

Also, please find out where exactly the British set shop in India!!

You might be mighty surprised to find that they did so in Surat on the Gujarat coast!!

In fact, the British were never really present in strength in Kerala!!
