mules of tora bora insist on eating red meaaat and train in blowing themselves up rather than warefare.... so much so that their cadets were found putting mehendiii on their hands on the day american special forces shot and dragged their leaderr like a dawwwg right from the front of their academy....

I'm asking you what is the evidence that what you say is the Truth ? If it is true , i'll agree it isnt an insult . I'm from a family with close ties to the army and I'm damn proud of it . The armymen I know are religious without being fanatic , whatever religion they belong to . This isnt a coincidence . They are taught that . I may not know every single member of the Indian army , but I know their culture and their camaradiere . Any fanatic leanings in the Army is nipped in the bud because they are taught that their fellow soldier is their brother , whatever state , caste or religion they belong to . If this is changing that is a serious matter and before you make such a serious accusation , ask yourself - do you have proof of what you write ? Or is something you heard from somebody who just says "everyone knows it " . That is a sure sign that he has no idea what he is talking about .

Mr. Sunil - I am Sorry if I have hurt you, but if India can recruit Jammu & Kashmiri civilians into Indian Army, then that can cause a Lot of damage in the near future which can be irreversible.

I don't know if you agree with me or not, but we have to suspect all of them as their loyalty is towards Islam and Never with India.

all dimwiits here talk loud mouth with zero brains as usual. I often have to intervene to restore some sense on rediff boards.

To all Aholes who think this training is of no avail .... imagine an army capturing heights on snowline above 5000 mts ..manned by a regular army with orders not to cross LoC and with little fire support...

Any other army would have preferred to bomb the enemy instead of taking those heights.

Its the obedient and brave officers and jawan of indian army who follow orders to the dot.

Terrorists!!!
by shanti Patil on Sep 22, 2011 12:43 PM  | Hide replies

With such a tough training given why military is not used to fight terrorism in India. Terrorism is a war against India and therefore military should take over this problem instead of police, ATS, NIS etc. IN US it was the military which killed Osama.

Why so scary?
by Ganesh Johnson on Sep 22, 2011 12:19 PM  | Hide replies

The camps seem to be ardous, but by no means i think getting lost is "scary". These camps are in a 10 to 15 KM radius of Pune. Most probably, toward the south-westerly direction. Any cadet feeling lost can simply start walking toward north east direction & in an hour will come to habited area. They should be taken to Bhimashankar forests, where there is more dense foliage & some real wild-life. It won't be more than 3 to 4 hours drive from NDA to reach Bhimashankar & from there set camp. All these existing camps are too close to urban land.

The purpose of this is to find the way back to base, not to any house somewhere. To teach them navigation and how to find the direction to the base camp. Which is important when they are posted at border and in hills

My only objection was to the point made that getting lost was "scary". I still maintain that being in vicinity of urban landscape, getting lost in a nearby jungle is not "scary", more so, for NDA cadets. They need something more to challenge them.

The camp may be near Pune , but they are left in the jungle at night . Even if they have compasses to assess the direction , what do they do if there is dense jungle or a steep hill without trails on the way ? They still have to go around it . More importantly they are given a certain route and are asked to stick to it as much as possible . A wrong route would mean delay and they are supposed to finish the trek within a certain time . Besides , these are 19 yr old rookies , not battle hardened veterans . For them , new experiences like this can be scary . If you read the article again , you'll see that the instructor was happy when the cadet said he'll still find his way back . The objective is not to increase the danger , but to increase the skills under pressure .
