Sell IITs and IIMs
by Devil Evil on May 24, 2011 06:48 PM

Jairam can recommend Kapil Sibal to sell IITs and IIMs; or take an advise from Raja on how to licence these institutions to Real Estates owners or Fruit vendors....after all there is no environment related issue in IITs and IIMs and hence Jairam can interfere....

Rightly Said..!!

I agree fully with the author.

In fact it is the lack of any knowledge and wisdom by Indian Politicians that is responsible for our short sighted and poor political administrative problems.

Ramesh is basically insulting his birth-giver CK Ramesh by saying he is not worldclass. Ramesh should tell Sibal n Sonia to fund higher education sector more than wht the country spends on defense. 2G scam money (around 1lak crores) is enough to build 1000 IITs and 1000 Harvards. What to do with corrupt, insensitive n looters of this country .... Big Tamasha going on, performed by india-looters.

Research
by Devil Evil on May 24, 2011 06:45 PM

Jairam should do a research on how many projects from Non-Congress governments have been rejected and on what basis and did it really paid him the dividends from his party as the Good Minister taking "care" of non-congress states' environment...

IITs are better than some American universities
by palanki narayana on May 24, 2011 06:45 PM

I have done my B.Tech from a Regional Engineering College(now National Institute of Technology)and M.Tech and Ph.D from IITs.I taught in an NIT for 35 years. My observations are as follows:(1)IITs are the best colleges in India. They are not as good as the premier institutes in USA or Europe but definitely better than the average institutes abroad.I can vouch for the fact that some of the Ph.D degrees awarded abroad are for theses containing only 20% of the work done in similar topics in IITs.(2)NITs are the second best, but lag far behind IITs with never a hope of catching up.In Prof.Indiresan's estimate,no NIT acheived even 20% of research, consultancy or patents of an IIT.(3)The government and state engineering colleges are half as good as NITs,mainly due to lack of funds and other resources.(4)The private colleges that mushroomed in the recent years have no right to exist due to the utter poverty of human and material resources.

No shame in admitting it
by Jon Rambo on May 24, 2011 06:43 PM

I am an IIT alumnus and agree 100% with Ramesh. Of course the idea is not to demean the mostly below average instructors at IITs and I am sure at IIM too, the idea is to attract better people to come and teach at these institutions.

But of course for any self-respecting researcher to come teach at IIT, he will need world class infrastructure and research labs and a handsome salary, close to what he may be get in a corporate R&D department.

Which of course explains why most professors at IIT are average.

People like "Jeeva" are the ones whom I wonder how they got into IIT. They are busy feeling "hurt" when the point is well made by Ramesh albeit a bit obtusely.

Jairam's Comments = Karunanidhi's Clean Governance
by Devil Evil on May 24, 2011 06:42 PM

Jairam's comments are to treated to comments from Karunanidhi that he will provide a "Corruption Free Government".

Jairam G, has to take a leaf from may G's - 2G, 3G, CWG, AdharshG, etc. to comment on Good governance and not about unrelated areas such as loose comments on IITs and IIMs. Well, he will certainly receive support from the likes of Kapil Sibal who on "taking over" the ministry told that there is "no corruption at all in licensing". Burying a bowl of melon in a bowl of rice!!!!

Let Jairam talk about World Class "Governance" and World Class "Ministers", and not talkiing bad of the very same institution (IIT) that made him....

Media should find out why he freaked again (remember the famous one he did when he was in China..) and to divert what another serious issue in Governance?

Youngsters of the nation should treat such people and those who support/patronize their comments with disdain and contempt.

They should be driven the way Karunanidhi was driven out in Tamil Nadu, even without being fit for an Opposition Leader...
