My first Job
by arindam goswami on Mar 07, 2011 10:02 AM  | Hide replies

My first Job:Joined as a GET in a Lala company.
They were a small company , and the year i passed, recession had gobbled all the jobs. They made good use of the same and hired me at a paltry sum. I just imagine how i used to survive then..Anyway i was enterprising enough,it was recognised and i was made to lead a department..Money did not rise, Md paid diwali bakshis, there was no chutti, i slept in the company conference room as i liked being in the company and learning new technologies.
11 years later i cherish those days as it made me realise what should be expected from a company that employs you. I was reprimanded by the MD for buying a part at a higher price( which he had himself authenticated);i pointed him out the flaw, but he instead scolded me and later on i realised that he was hand in gloves with the vendor...Huh what life and double talk..nevertheless that job changed my identity from " Engineer" to " a Professional"

Just do your job & be honest to yourself

First Job:Joined as Management Trainee in a fast growing Infra company.
I got picked from campus in the year 2008.
But at that point of time I never heard the company name. I was not sure whether I got the right job. Salary was not OK, but keeping in mind the recession in economy, job security was important, which is the big plus in this company. I have impressed one and all with my performance and started enjoying the learning & responsibility. I am fortunate that i am exposed to each function of Finance. So all is well in my case. I am a happy man.

Lesson Learned:Let other know what you are doing and capable of doing. You have to demand what you deserve.
Tips for Job Seeker: Choose the job, where you wish to build your future. It is not the company, it is the job which is more important.

I was waiting to join a ship as a Deck Cadet after my selection. The waiting became never ending. Ultimately I got frustrated and started working as a Sales Manager in Gondia, my home town. (I come from the same town that Hon. Minister Mr. Prafull Patel comes from)I was selling records that we used to play on the gramophone for a sum of Rs 60/- per month as a salary.
I still meet my boss whenever I am in Gondia. Boss is now 90 plus but he respects me and offers me one Laddoo along with his blessings.I eventually bacame a Captain of a ship but I havent forgotten those Rs 120/- that I earned in Bharat Laxmi store in the year 1975! I wish I could preserve those 2 ruppees denomination 30 notes of my first Salary!

If your future plan is to start a new company
by Amen Here on Mar 05, 2011 08:04 AM  | Hide replies

Don't join big companies

Its always recommend you to join a small growing company. You can reach top position easily on short terms. you will get exposed to lot of thing

Suppose in software industry

1. You may start as a tester
2. You may join development team
3. You will get promoted as project leader
4. You will get promoted as Project Manager.

This way you get expertize d in different arean. I think in 5 years you will be in a position to start a new company

If you are joining a big company. You will sticked to modules. You don't even know what the full project is .
