MDE in india
by paluni on Jul 27, 2011 02:56 PM

The hike in price plays the major role for MDE in common people of India. Who is responsible? Is not it due to bad governance? The rich has become more rich and the middle man more poor.

useless stats
by Praveen Rai on Jul 27, 2011 02:56 PM  | Hide replies

This is the problem with statistics. Interview 5000 people out of 1.15 billion people and script a narrative about anything you want. Who doesn't have worries? Many of the so-called psychological illnesses are "created" by the shrinks who otherwise have no way to earn their livelihood. A French friend of mine tells me that Paris has become "Prozac" country. You go to a head doctor and say you have anxiety, they will make you permanently "depressed." Go ask an Indian villager (700 million of them)about his depression and I am sure he will say, "yeh soch ne ka time nahin hein saab!" People who work hard for daily bread and sleep well in the night, really don't think much about these things. Well, the advent of exploitative form of capitalism can change that for our villagers.

Sir Winston Churchill wrote 64 years before ...

"Power will go to the hands of rascals, rogues, freebooters; all Indian leaders will be of low calibre & men of straw. They will have sweet tongues & silly hearts. They will fight amongst themselves for power & India will be lost in political squabbles. A day would come when even air & water wouldBe
taxed in India."

It is tough to compare...
by kiran kumar on Jul 27, 2011 02:50 PM

for someone who has not seen the world. If the question was... are Indians happy with the way they are living? Answer will be no. But are they doing anything about it? not much. Issues vary from security of the people to performance in sports. People are not satified, not content and very disturbed. Still they dont do anything about it.

And people are not the only ones to be blamed for that. It is a systamic failure and the people with meanest ideologies reach the toppest positions, and few good people on the top are forced to live with this reality.

Common factor
by kiran kumar on Jul 27, 2011 02:49 PM

The common factor among the top three nations is the fact that these countries are democratic.
1. India - Largest Democracy in terms of population
2. France - Most number of political parties after India
3. US - Biggest Democracy in terms of GDP

Does this mean, people are confused and creating chaos among rulers, leading to political parties having higher priorities for their personal and political agenda over country welfare
