he is like that 'only'
by ravi chitrapu on Jul 20, 2011 06:38 PM  | Hide replies

i think removing the word 'only' does not convey the meaning we would like to by including the word 'only' in that phrase. (voh aise hee hai!) So what if it doesn't seem correct - language keeps changing and evolving - so when we dont have an alternative we should not hesitate to use such local modifications. Who knows - after some time - the Webster /oxford dictionary may include the phrase. Even if they dont accept it, let us use it and show that we are like that only!!

by Sangita Menon on Jul 20, 2011 06:19 PM  | Hide replies

It really annoys me no end when people use the word 'desi'.

Can't you say 'Indians'?

I didn't know that the Rediff's creative headline writer was an English language expert.

And by the way, why do you degrade a perfectly fine Hindi word "Desi"? Maybe you were the one who boycotted the film "Pardes"? Eh? :)

Which is exactly what the article has included, in case you noticed... :)

I can't speak for Rediff's creative headline writer, of course... :)
