UK is all about innovation
by A Bassapa on Jan 20, 2011 01:41 PM

Hey guys, whenever we talk about studying abroad why do we only think about working and finding a job there...? In the current times we should think about education specially higher education from global perspective. The education should enable you to work anywhere in the world.
I have done my master programs in games programming from Sheffield Hallam University. I think Uk education is very contemporary and the methodology is very innovative.

Apart from studying it gives you a lifetime experience which adds to your learning.
Dont have a closed mind...explore and learn. There are many innovative courses down there.

Do your research well dont find an easy way out through AGENTS...

Best wishes to you all. UK rocks...!!

Hey guys, whenever you think about stydying abroad why do you always think about finding a job there and settling there......?

In the current times with education specially the higher education you should aim to become a GLOBAL CITIZEN who can work anywhere in the world.

I did my master programs in games programming from a UK Univ- Sheffield Hallam. I found it to be a great learning experience, contemporary methodologies and focus on innovative practices. I am currently working in California, US. The exposure which I gained at UK has been of great help to me.

So, do not operate with a closed mind...explore and learn. There are many innovative courses out there. Do your research well. Do not take a short cut by just going by AGENT advice.

Best wishes....UK ROCKS !!!

Advice

Pls do ensure that you thoroughly check about the return of investment when applying to these Universities. Most of these universities are just average, and considering the heavy cost of fees and living in UK, you should be prepared to face the risks. Getting a job in the market here is not very easy, and the ability to work after studying is getting tougher 'cos of the visa regulations. Economies across Europe are facing major austerity measures and cuts and hence, once must be cautious when investing huge sums for higher studies here. In case you do not land a job after your course, you should be prepared to return to India, but then keep the return of investment factor in mind.

Before deciding to join any University, make it a point to talk to current students there and know the ground-reality. Find out from the Indian students on job prospects.

Except Queen Mary (University of London) which is rated as an 'A' tier University, all other Universities listed in the list above are 'C' tier Universities in the UK.

The Institute of Education, University of London is a top-tier university. It was founded in 1902 and is officially ranked number one in the UK for education research. And, like Queen Mary, the IOE is a college of the University of London.

Deepak Bhavani's comment above is, I'm afraid, inaccurate.

Not all UK universities are equal
by Vasanth on Jan 18, 2011 05:09 AM  | Hide replies

The UK has plenty of universities and not all of them are equal and most of the lesser known universities offer admissions to international students due the large amount of fees they pay. Agents in India generally push for certain universities as they generally have a kick back from the university. A general rule of thumb would be to use the UK university league tables either the ones from guardian or times and make sure you only consider the ones in the top 30 or 40.

Relying on university league tables is not always sufficient because the rankings are compiled based on undergraduate performance. That means that many specialist postgraduate universities, which lead the world in their chosen fields, are generally excluded from these rankings. The Institute of Education, a college of the University of London, is a specialist postgraduate provider in the field of education studies. It offers Masters and Doctoral degrees and therefore doesn't feature in newspaper rankings. So please make decisions about university enrolments with caution - league tables do not give the full picture.
