Hi,

I make a valid point, vvs is not the product of academy , his is natural talent , what happen to MRF Pace acedemy if 20 years spending over million it gave only srinath or prasad wich were not verly lethal, any use of this acedmey, talent speaks itself like in vvs case

Laxman's parents set an example
by Abhilash Nair on Jan 07, 2011 02:53 PM  | Hide replies

We ought to appreciate Laxman's parents. They gave him the freedom to choose his career and see where that has taken him. The fact that he, inspite of being born into a family of doctors, has completed education only till 12th standard is amazing. Other parents would have definitely told their children to atleast complete graduation if not more. But inspite of being doctors, they never force their son to choose the same profession. That is definitely a lesson to millions of parents in India

Not everyone can become VVS Laxman, my dear friend. Its okay to pursue a career that one is passionate about but one should also be realistic about his own abilities.

The irony is that when you start putting benchmarks on your ability, you never achieve big things in life.

Ability can be aquired.

SATHYANARAYANA,
If you are a teen, are you willing to train in cricket and take it as a profession? And if you are a grown up person with children, are you willing to dedicate your children to join cricket academy and take cricket as a profession?

Laxman
by HonestTruth on Jan 07, 2011 02:45 PM  | Hide replies

Laxman is a great player, but I know of a guy who used to play with him and was far more talented and more prolific in the domestic circuit. Both of them used to play for Hyderabad. I have known both of them closely and we all knew then that though the other guy was better, Laxman was selected becoz of his parents influence (both are well known doctors) and it was a public secret that money had changed hands. The other guy retired from cricket after a few more seasons when he was sure that he stood no chance becoz of his financial status.

Again this in no way questions Laxman's class as a batsman, only that for selection only class does not count, cash also does.

It is true that some selections do happen through money, I do not know about Laxman.

But if you keep performing you cannot be neglected for long.

Can you name the other player?

Story editor, You say that if you keep performing you cannot be neglected for long...ever heard of Bhaskar Pillai, Ananthapadmanabhan and VB Chandrashekar ? VB was supposed to be far more explosive than Srikkanth, and Bhaskar Pillai was of the class of Vengsarkar, and better than Sanjay Manjrekar also. Ananthapadmanabhan was an all rounder who consistently performed excellently in the domestic circuit but these were three of the umpteen players who performed consistently and continuously till their retirement, but was always neglected.

You idiot, both can be selected in the national team if they are good enough. Is there some criteria that only one player can be selected ? Dont just shoot off some lies because you are anonymous.

Raju, u r an idiot if u dont know how selection is done...unlike other zones, south zone has four states (though Kerala was not a serious contender) which have to finalize 2 players to represent it, hence getting in one player from a state was a big thing. Now to top it, when south had biggies like Kumble, Srinath, and Dravid (and to an extent Venky) already warranting automatic selection, it was next to impossible to get in an extra player from South. If you have any knowledge about cricket, u shud know that even Laxman used to be selected in the playing 11 very rarely until 2001 victory against Aussies.

It is better if u get some knowledge about cricket and its history before you talk crap.

cricket is the most lucrative career option at the moment . and theres no chance that a person wil get selected just on da basis of his ability alone ! . he has to shel out money ! ofcourse frm out of millions of players willing to play for th team ., and only 11 players in da squad . tht too only 2 or 3 new players taken every 2-3 yrs !! its a fierce competition out ther . ability , luck and money all required to make it to indian team ! if money wasnt involved . indian team would have got much better players than what we got currently

you are a total waste honestly..there are many times in recent past (not on Indian grounds) where laxman was asked to perform, and he delivered. maybe for t20 and one day you may be right, but when it comes to test, laxman is the best..
