I fully agree with this post in terms of the concept than with the absolute numbers. Unless the purchasing power of the individual is good, there can be no happiness. It needs to be worked out for Indian context but anywhere between 8 to 12 lpa should be a decent threshold. Will someone conduct a survey on this?

When you can afford BMW, i bet you always can afford a cute GF who can take the best care in BMW... lol.. No cry baby!!!
A very rich man is cinstantly under threat from criminals, underworld, income tax officials etc.
More they earn more worries about how to utilise money without offering it to tax.
While a common man with lesser earning can walk freely, eat freely and enjoy freely, rich people hardly enjoy any of those privileges as they would be noticed and judged on their act. The survey is wrong.
One does not need so much money to buy happiness. even if one has money to buy higher things, one can find happiness in ordinary nokia, one does not need backberry or touch phone. one can be happy with alto and may not need swift Dzire. similary one can be really happy in 2BHK, instead of dreaming of banglow or 3BHK.

OH!!! U have 1 crore in hand???? u r a crorepati!!! Here rediff is busy with happiness in lakhs!!!
Life is all about balancing. If we earn even 5 lacs a year and don't compare with others, definitely one can lead a happy life. Sharing and caring also brings u lots of happiness.

Only till someone in the family falls ill and the bill is 7 lakhs.
"The results showed that the lowest earners found life the biggest struggle, and the struggle eased with increasing salaries."
These are couple of lines from the above article.. What an eyeopener... i never knew this before... I had always been thinking it the other way around...
Hmm... I only wish people find better things to publish than this kind of faltoo research... Gods save us...

Money is certainly the gateway of happiness. But under no circumstances can buy happiness. It is not an object one can buy. It is a kind of feeling in mind. It depends from man to man.
