wats so good in tht book called 2 states? Telling how he had se* with his gf and how he convinced their parent by doing all nonsense stuff-crap novel!! A dustbin stuff
I read this book and found it good as I could relate to some of my experiences in a rural engineering college (now a much reputed deemed university) in 85/89.Like him, the 4 year sojourn was a nightmare of sorts, saddest thing is I still have to make a living out of what I went through those years.

You get the right to write this only when you become capable of writing at least masaledar books... Lakhs of people reading and liking his books can't be fools

So you mean to say that I should be a writer to criticize novels? Or a movie-maker to criticize movies? Going by the same logic, you need to be a minister or MLA to criticize the delivery of public services. You need to be working in the electricity department to complain about our power outages. Don't make such strange arguments. Lakhs of people reading his books are not fools, agreed. The same way that the lakhs of people watching saas bahu serials are also not fools. Does that mean the saas bahu serials have artistic merit?

You are partly right - you don't have to be a great writer to have the RIGHT to criticize a book; likes and dislikes are personal, and freedom of speech still exists in India in most spaces. HOWEVER, your criticism will be more sensible, will carry more water and will easily accepted if you ARE a great writer. Just as criticism of the batting technique of Rahul Dravid by someone like Sunil Gavaskar would be more sensible and acceptable compared to criticism of Dravid's technique by armchair laymen like you and me.

Very well said Ayan. Harsha is right too.. but I think it is useless to argue whether Chetan Bhagat is a greater or lesser writer than someone else. Let's try and see whether we enjoy his books or not. He does not pretend to give a message also, so why blame him for lack of message in his books ? Let's read his books from an entertainment (if you get entertained by his kind of novels) point of view. Also, if one throws his books in a dustbin, that's also right because it is the reader's personal choice after having bought the book and paying for it, he can give the book the treatment he thinks is fine.

He did fool anu one, Few Bollywood smarter guys made fool of this IIT, IIM professional who boast to be youth icon of india.
Their is no doubt that CB is very good writer indeed. Even the articles which he wrote in Newspapers gets your brain into action. He really writes with deep thinking. Definitely we are going to see some few good stories from him in future. And at last I hope he would not be ditched like what Aamir Khan did to him in 3Ds.
'2 States' was an engaging read. On first reading, I felt that the author himself portrays one part of India in a poor light compared to the other, so I'm not sure how the book will bridge the gap. The way the couple persevere and work on their parents patiently is quite amazing though. I believe that more exposure to different cultures and spiritual education will go a longer way in achieving the author's objective of bringing together minds.
