almost all the calenders start somewhere in the vicinity of spring i.e March and April because that's when new life starts around everywhere. New plants, flowers etc. That is the most beautiful season of the year.
Even the present day Julian calendar used to start on March, hence the name September ,October, November December which translate to 7th month, 8th month ninth month and 10the month.

Mr Kiran , You need NOT mention about Muslim New Year, here artical is about Hindu new year. It seems there is NO Unanimity about which is Hindu New Year ... ha ha ha ha ha ....

Moreover in South India they have such uncivilized names for the beginning of the Hindu new year. Ugadi, Gudi Padwa, can it get worse than this? That is why I say that North India should dump South India and form a true Hindu Aryan nation...

Four SOUTH INDIAN states should be DECENTRALISED, independent policies irrespective of CENTRE, where we have to beg for allocation of funds, which is not done on the performing merit basis. If separate NATION its well & good

hello, such communal thoughts can originate only in a narrow mind. North and south are mere directions geographically, and directions made into divisions shows a very communal mindset. Lets learn to grow up!

If south indian names are uncivilised north indian names are obnoxious. If you dump south india India will not have brain left - south is the brain & north is eating population.

How come I am Wrong,? I was told by Panditji( Jyotishi) that Hindu New year is On Next Day of Diwali, we follw that tradition , NOT the rediff tradition. Mr. simhasamra, DO YOU Know Hindu Calender ??

This is not rediff tradition or one man's tradition. Hindu calender year starts from Chaitra. So Yugadi is starting day of chaitra. Dont know about your panditji, I dont say that he is bluffing... But it is true that Ugadi is a new year day for South Indians
