Just wanting is not enough..
by manoj kumar on Mar 14, 2010 12:51 AM  | Hide replies

go ahead and do it. we indian keep wanting lots of things. just thoughts in the mind. we love to entertain ourselves. No guts to go ahead and take action.
in west they train u since childhood to go ahead and hit the road. you know what works for u and what doesn't by only doing it. Thats why they always give projects to their kids in school. always result oriented action. They believe in training. While we believe in memorising books. that explain why india looks like chaose everywhere. its our habit...

For any article in rediff,is it necessary to jump down to India's education and what's wrong as compared to western countries.
Stop this Mr.Manoj, u will go nowhere by such attitude!!!!

shallow

"I had been working on a few books and the first one that I finished was about a man, dog and a pig stranded in a lonely city -- as you rightly guessed there were very few who wanted to read it"

Youth are pretty shallow. They read only love stories.

It''s a fashion to do something other than your own field
by reader on Mar 12, 2010 08:18 PM  | Hide replies

Actually I dont get an idea why engineers and doctors are now turning to be a writer, photographer etc. If they were really interested in those field than why to study engineering?
The message of 3 idiots are like that people has to chose a profession in which he really has an interest. Now it's a fashion that every body at IIT and IIM are thinking to become director, writer, photographer, fashion designer etc. So why the westage of years and parents' money.

Everyone trying to become chetan bhagat now
by Sinhag Brijesh on Mar 12, 2010 04:56 PM  | Hide replies

Chetan Bhagat’s success has inspired lot of people in India to write a book and make money. And as Indian youth (which uses word” I am mature” more than their sense of maturity and talks) is reading like never before. So everyone’s book will be success.
BTW I tried to read the Chetan’s “Two States” and didn’t find it worth reading. After reading few pages, thought came into my mind, why should I read his love story? What he wants to tell the readers from his love story. I didn’t find it worth reading.

to be honest, all books by Chetan Bhagat are crap. He does not have the punch to lure readers. He just writes bland.

Life is a stage and we are the actors...
by om shanti on Mar 12, 2010 10:36 AM  | Hide replies

Writing a book is not so easy thing,we need to ensure that we complete it,it is saleable,it is emotive,it has substance,it has sincerity and most importantly it gets a good publisher..

I am trying to write a novel since 1995..till now only 27 A4 size pages completed..I want to write the best masterpiece of all times !!!

Although I have published many articles, poems in magazines of my mother tongue since I was in standard eight,i.e. 1986,however,in English nothing much except one article in The Statesman, one poem in the Asian Age,one article in the Asian age,all during 1995-96.Writing a book needs lot of determination...

In my way of writing adventure, the biggest obstacle is my laziness to write..then comes my philosophy..I think all the best things have already been written, what remains for me to write ?

Can I make my book everlasting ? Then I think, what is the meaning of everlasting, where as nobody knows how many centuries human civilisation will last..

Becoming a successful writer is also one dream like many other dreams that we dream in the teenage and youth.Sometimes I thought,I can be a bollywood actor, some one like Anupam Kher or Irfan Khan..but how to get the chance !

Then I thought if I can be a good singer, like say Sonu Nigam,well.. my voice is good for poetry recitation, but not continuous and suitable for singing,I take pause inbetween..
This way, people die burying many dreams..

Therefore,I congratulate Amrit,for writing and publishing a book !

This guy is lucky that he isnt a voracious reader...! If he were, he wldnt have dared taking his crap to a publisher...! But, the thing is that in India, now there is a large mass of people who r just beginning to get introduced into reading books, late, in their adulthood, and serve as a good market for these so called 'writings'..! And thats a good market to tap. But, unfortunately, if u were already into reading right from your early teen or childhood, u wld never ever want to attempt such a writing and wld never be able to stomach such a writing by others as well - as has been rightly reflected by his own wife's comments..!
