having worked in L&T for 3 years .. one thing is for sure.. i ve had an extremely steep learning curve and a great and wide experience .... This has helped me not just professionally but also on personal fronts...
As evident here, experience in L&T has always been a mixed one... yes there are lots of rooms to imrpove...lots of complaints and equally wonderful "greats" of this company.
Two types of ppl come here: 1) Those who only complains and expects everything to be perfect without a positive from themselves to improve it. These people fail to understand that they are a part of the company and they are equally responsible to improve the conditions , if any. So they go on crying and crying until they snap.And in all these , they do forget to apply themselves and become mere clerical.
2) The other type, they do have lots of prob and complain abt the company , do make a serious effort to improve the conditions and make sure the problem is noticed by the right ppl. and the results ve been always positive. And thsi particular attitude comes professionally too. Dont expect one to give you a task or wait for one. One should be positive enuf to go forward and take up a responsibility. No one in L&T has prob if one wants to work.. There are plenty of work. and that how one creates a value for himself and the company.
The company is not perfect, not evrybody ( esp. mid level mngmnt holds similar attitude o

Not everybody in the company hold the same view.( esp. for mid level mangement this is of great importance since their views are considered as that of the company in executive and working level. But few stray incidents cannot be the basis to define a company negatively.
In short, if you decide to be an engg and act like one responsibly, L&T is a great company.. but if its the flashy , only complain , no effort and fat pay.. pls check out some other address..
L&T "A dream companies for Engineers" ,When i was in my college i had heard this ,from that time i worked hard to get into this ,then i got opportunity n i cash it ,joined L&T as a GET in the Engineering & Construction Division of its ,then i feel why people say it's a dream company for Engineers . Yes i m proud to be part of this company ,in L&T u have job security more than any other private firm just like govt. firms, u have regular training sessions I had many regular trainings inhouse & outside (IIT Bomaby ,IIM Indore ,SIT,MIT,NPTI),u get work whatever u want ,everything is very systemetic ,what else u expect from a firm . In L&T once people join many of them continues till their retirement .whatelse i'll tell u more than this .
& the people who r commenting below ,many of them even didnt work with L&T ,i m damn sure . I admitted that pay scale here need to be revised a bit but still the facilities & allowances we get are more than any ohter private firm .touch wood

As an ex-L&Tite, I would say that working in L&T is waste of time & life. Neither, you can satisfy the Job nor your family. They pay peanuts & ask you to work 12-14 hours a day, work on Sundays, National holidays etc etc. Despite of that, you have to please your boss & they have a saga called “BOSS IS ALWAYS RIGHT". Besides this, the appraisal system is horrible. No self appraisal System. Technically, you don’t gather much knowledge but only some administrative skills. They bring Sub-Contractors from some road side & ask you to get the work done. Really horrible. Apart from all this, the politics and corruption level is sky high. Many people (incld. me) in L&T just think/thought that they are working in a Prestigious Company and the work life is similar everywhere. But, it’s not true at all. I left L&T 6 years back after working for 7 yrs and now enjoying my work life and family life. I am earning very handsome money that has changed my profile in whole. Many L&T-ites should realise this & come out to know what the real world is. Believe me!, I didn’t over hype anything & all the above info is factual.

in 6 yrs of span everything has been changed my dear friend ,i m in L&T ENC Division :-)
in govt departments, the top and middle level and even lower level officers are not given the privilege of choosing their officers/subordinates unlike in private corporations. they have to accept the resources available when they assume responsibility.
once in charge, they have to do jugglery of identifying the square and round pegs and putting them in near similar holes. and they have to consider and swiim with the caste equations, political influences and the trade unions that again are based on similar outlook. and they have to perform also.
saving grace is that the officers from outside the state are less influenced or less troubled by such situation.
what happens is that the officers are turned into one of best humanresource experts not theorists but real in blood and flesh.
more than that, the top lelel officers will deal with revenue and expendditure of 10s of 1000s of crore without batting an eylid. joke is that, in those days just around 14 years back, the top civil servants will carry home a salary of less than 20,000. even now they do not get more than around 60 to 70 thousands.
the senior ambani, i read somewhere, employed a lot of such senior govt. of india officers in his enterprise. the reason that there were no candidates in private sector at that time who can deal with 1000s of crore and get not daunted by it.
some smart people or visionaries see diamond in a coal pit.
Its a good company to start your career.. But later change over to better paying companies.
They have very strict criteria to select candidates, but its all related to academic achievements. They are not much concerned with practical capabilities.
I beg to differ with most of the comments below..I worked with L&T and as per me , this is the best "Institute" for a young grad to start his career. You will learn a lot and definitely will have lot of challenges to face. Even if you have to manage the subcontractors , the management does not stop at getting things done but the sub-cons will need lot of Technical inputs which you should be capable of providing. I am not sure where all others who commented below worked but my experience in this Organization was one of the best and I respect each day I worked here. If you expect an IT like job where for doing your own work , somebody will plead you then don't join L&T. In L&T , you have to respect professionalism and do your job with utmost sincereity and pride. This is something missing gravely in IT or other services job.
