Do you need eight hours?
by Suresh Bhave on Jun 13, 2010 06:19 PM

Not at all. Recent research has shown that between five to seven hours of sleep are sufficient for an adult.

Shedule of sleep
by anjan bala on Jun 13, 2010 04:38 PM

Keep same shedule of sleep whether it is week day or week end and start meditation.Meditation brings calm mind and there will be no problem if you sleep only for 5-6 hours and avoid heavy and spicy food at night.Drink milk at night which is a good base(non acid)and controls acidity and gives good sound sleep.

Increased risk of micro sleeps (Sleep apnea), obesity &am
by prasenjit ajwelkar on Jun 08, 2010 05:58 PM

This suggestion might seems a bit over of over reaction - but ideally it is better to get sleep study done. Had this problem of micro sleep, high volume snoring and have driven my car off the road more than couple of times. Then did sleep study at Jaslok where they provided me with respironics mask. It has helped me to virtually eliminate my snoring & micro sleep problem. Did my thyroid check as recommended and saw that my weight scaling high to 95 kgs. After hypo thyroid treatment for last 3 months have reduced my weight by almost 5 kgs. Hope to reduce another 10 kgs in next 6 months.

Thanks to articles like this one which help in getting disorders corrected.

sLEEPING 8 HRS MAY ALSO BE INADEQUATE IF U R FULLY ASLEEP NEITHER AWAKE.SLEEP HARD FOR 4 HRS AT NIGHT OR DAY , U'LL BE MORE SPRIGHTLY THAN THE ONE WHO SLEEPS FOR 8 HRS. ONE SHOULD LEARN TO SLEEP PROPERLY TO BE ALERT AND ACTIVE THRU THE DAY/NIGHT

CALCULATION
by leeshang on Jun 08, 2010 12:35 PM  | Hide replies

24 HOURS A DAY
8 HOURS WORKING
8 HOURS MISC. WORK (TRAVELLING, ENTERTAINMENT ETC.)
8 HOURS SLEEP
BUT INDIANS THEY NEITHER SLEEP NOR LET OTHERS SLEEP. AND IF YOU GET TIME TO HAVE SOME SOUND SLEEP THEN SYSTEMS DON;T LET THEM SLEEP. OR WE KEEP SLEEPING UNTILL EVERYTHING GETS VANISH. SMART SLEEP, WITH SLEEP WITHOUT SLEEP.
THAT IS WHY POLITICIANS AND BUREAUCRATES DON;T SLEEP. SOME ONE HAS TO TAKE CARE OF COUNTRY - YOU ARE SLEEPING THATS WHY WE ARE NOT?

Everything is relative... or literally 'associative'!!
What is the guy in the vehicle heading in your direction has had inadequate sleep?

no one can sleep empty stomach. Yes one can faint. And what is the average age of the mumbaikar? I was told that mumbaikars live very old. Because they get old very early.

You should compare Mumbaikars who sleep less than 7 hours to Bangaloreans who sleep more than 7 hours, and not to some poor farmer in Vidharbha on the verge of committing suicide. Please show me where there are people who party till morning, get drunk, and live to a healthy old age - 'healthy' being the operative word here. Popping off at 70 due to heart disease doesn't count. I know it is fashionable among the people of b'bay to say they sleep 5 hours a day. And I also see many of them paying dearly, in not so fashionable ways for the abuse they heap on their bodies. If you believe that you can booze till morning, sleep less, eat junk food and live well post 40, or even 30, you will be proved wrong sooner or later. And then you will have the rest of your miserable life to cry.
