Who pays the Marketing Bill? Few have shared infrastructure too.
by Anand R on Feb 19, 2010 02:22 PM

Pick any Buisness magazine or website/book/magazine on MBA career and you will see advertisements spread across. Corporate B-schools can grow without any infrastructure with only money and marketing. You will never come across BIM Trichy, DOMS(NIT/REC) Trichy, JBIMS, KJSomaya, UBS Chandigarh etc in them.
Most of them are finding it difficult to compete. But some of these have been able to evolve well thanks to the shared infrastructure they own with other departments in their campuses-examples include JBIMS, DOMS(NIT/REC) Trichy, UBS Chandigarh (all of them are well established players for last few decades!) and new B-schools starting in IITs and other NIT/RECs etc.

Who will pay for marketing? Shared infrastructure gives few edge.
by Anand R on Feb 19, 2010 02:13 PM

Government Supported B-schools like DOMS Trichy, BIM Trichy, JBIMS, UBS Chandigarh, etc all lack the marketing muscle that even a new private B-School withoun any credible infrastrucrure have. Just pick out any Business Mag or MBA career website you will never see these names.

Amongst these Government run MBAs there are some which make up for the quality through their shared infrastructure with other technical deaprtments like DOMS Trichy which is a part of NIT/REC Trichy campus and has been existing for over 3 decades for now. New MBA departments in IITs are catching-up and IIT Mumbai has an excellent B-school too.

standard o ffuclties in Professional Institutions.
by RathindraNath Banerjee on Feb 19, 2010 12:15 PM

with the opening of thousands of engg and management coegges(?) during last 10/15 years all over the country, the standard of education has gone down beyond repair. This is becos of two reasons :1)Poor qualitiy of students admitted 2)Substandard/insufficient no of Faculties. Students with 35/40 p.c. marks are being admitted for B.Tech courses. I donot know which type of society they will help.Students after getting an MBA Degree are working as salespersons in Departmental stores with less than Minimum wages. While Education should be a right to every children, right to higher education should be immediately restricted to the genunine ones. But who will do it ? All such colleges are patronised by political leaders from all partioes. Is Kapil Sibal listening or he is also following the same path of Arjun Sing, who has spoiled the Indian Education irreparably?

Some of these Government Institutes yet produce the best
by Vikas on Feb 19, 2010 11:59 AM

After CAT the next big MBA entrance test in terms of number of applicants is CET
If you even take data of last 8 years from when there is a new phenomena of some private B-schools 1)buying ratings and rankings 2) heavily advertising in paper or radio.
The top 2 institutes in students / recruiters choice from CET entrance exams are:
JBIMS and Sydenham
both govenment institutes.
The visiting faculty in these are the best in the industry. The corporte world knows that the talent they are getting from these 2 institues is the best, hence these two institues are high on placements. The alumni of these institutes are highly respected in the industry.
The students at the Government institutes learn to be managers in a true sense with all activites and seminars handled and executed to perfection by the students themselves. also these institutes do not burn hole in students pocket by charging exhorbitant fees- the give the best ROI amongst most B-schools.
Even if Government institutes are not able to generate higher rankings in some B-school surveys because of not having world class infrastructure or having large number of permanent faculty they are able to attract the best students and recruiters because most are aware that the intellect at these institutes is high even though they are not ranked highly or are not particpative in many ranking and surveys.
