What is the other option?

What is the other option then? A lottery system maybe where random numbers determine who is in and who is out?

The root cause of the problem is the rampant commercialisation of the education sector. Hundreds of B Schools all over the country having AICTE approval splash newspaper avts making tall claims but add little value to one's career except the right to call oneself MBA. Even the IIM's are suffering for this mediocrity as none of them find a place amongst the top 100 B Schools. and where is the place for brilliance anyway? our education
system is structured in such a manner from the primary level that only those who have access to proper finance , guidance and of course strong references are bound to succeed. there are notable exceptions to these..but they can only be said to be proving the rule.

entrances are just a money making tool..
only 1 -2 exams can be used as a benchmark..
its not abt judging management aptitude. but just some criteria to judge iq..
gmat or cat should be the only standard..

Entrance tests are just a test of IQ
by swapnil patil on Feb 11, 2010 10:08 AM  | Hide replies

The Tests are only a test of the IQ and a minimum qualifier. Is is very easy for anyone to start saying this is farce ad tht is farce...what is the solution. There has to be an objective screenign mechanism and this is it. perhaps all the Indian institutes should also shift to GMAT for admissions. then perhaps it wil be much easier for the students and they dont have to go running to institutes like Careers360 for coachign

Agreed, we need a screening mechanism....but the question is why have so many different screening mechanisms? Why all institutes are allowed to have their own exams with exam forms being sold for 1000 bucks apiece. And when u go for an interview to any of these colleges after clearing their entrance, they ask for a donation. Politicians run these colleges and fleece the middle class Indian who intends to make a living by using his knowledge. He doesn't realize that the one person earning the most at the end is the illiterate politician. And they say India is Shining.

Very well said, Janit!

Education is a money making industry.

Whether we gain knowledge or gain paper degrees is a different story.

I believe that only degrees dont make a person successful. A illiterate or moderately educated person can be more successful than a MBA/etc.

So we must define success for ourselves and not feed the education industry -- the "investment" can not guarantee success later!
