Hi, nice to read your post and feel happy to see some of my super super juniors got into good companies. IFIM is a mediocore b school. I passed out in 2001. What I feel, in MBA more than the institute its the individual that matters most. I agree to some extent that MBA is only for "LOOT Maar" money concept. If you have the talent you will succeed not because of the school u joined. I am so happy to see my school in top 50. Kudos to Padode Sir.

I am planning to join MBA (Media & Entertainment) in Manipal, Bangalore. They have collaboration with Whistling Woods International (Mumbai), founded and run by Subhash Ghai. The 2nd year of this course will be completed at WWI with extensive project work. I find two reasons to attend this course - 1.Specialization of Media & Entertainment, 2.Association of Whistling Woods.
However, I have two doubts which is holding me from applying for admission - 1. Manipal is not in top B schools of India 2. Not sure what kind of job role/position an MBA (Media & Entertainment) will get in this industry.
Please help/suggest. Professional from Media/Entertainment industry please advise. Thanks a ton.
Hi, I see a lot of full page newspaper ads about IIPM, about their faculty, facilities, placements and rankings. In recent times, there were a lot of advertisements in TV about Shah Rukh Khan coming to their Bangalore campus and holding a business quiz or something like that. Besides this, Arindam Choudhuri has written books, edits magazines and one of his recent books is in some bestseller lists too. But somehow when I see their campus in Bangalore, it is just a single solitary building in Koramangala, and there seems to be a disconnect between the advertisements and reality. I have also never interacted with an IIPM graduate in my professional life even though I have been working in the corporate sector for a long time. So do you have any views on this institute? Of course I realise that in a public forum you may not wish to comment but I would appreciate if you send your responses privately to my email id.

IIPM is the most dubious organisation in India. It calls its MBA not Degree or Diploma... but a `Management Programme'- This `Programme' does not comply with Indian standards and claims some foreign affiliations not recognised by Indian institutions. The full page Ads have a microscopic rider... which most people would miss...about this caveat of being a Programme. Students shell out as high as Rs 10 lakhs for the courses only to find themselves unemployable after few years. IIPM has a huge multi-crore ad revenue tie-up with Bennett Coleman (Times of India group) which ensures laudatory articles....but visiting their premises in person is a culture shock for most people. Also some of the well-healed students who go there to have good time pass don't need jobs as they join their own family enterprises...these are the pampered lot. Also there is the tendency to recruit and keep good looking ladies in the campus in various posts...this is the typical `Wallflower syndrome'- of attracting young hot blooded students to the campus who are taken for a ride and their careers go for a toss. Be intelligent enough to read through the gimmicks which this dubious organisation engages in. IIPM also has the reputation of threatening students who speak out against the institution. A google search on this would reveal the details.

How many of work ex do you have and i what capacity? In any case if your CTC for the year 2010 is going to be more than 5-6L, you shld think twice for IIPM. Well again, its a very subjective issue, and i may try helping you if u let me know the query raised above.

Well, the full page and half page advts are disgusting, for sure. One wonders why a successful B-School should advertise so much...and quite a lot of it is self-congratulatory..all the more worrying!
