Apart from the enforcement of current laws, the following actions should be taken as deterrents:- 1. The tyres of the vehicle of the drunken driver should be deflated, the drunken driver and the passengers should be sent home by the police in an autorickshaw, NOT A TAXI, at their cost.
2. The police should mandatorily check all drivers coming out of hotels on special nights like New Year's, Diwali, Christmas etc. On these occasions special checkpoints should be established about 50-100m away from these hotels etc. Mere presence of checkposts and fear of deflating of tyres will ensure drastic reduction in drunken driving. Since alcohol is served legally in bars, hotels cannot be blamed if someone consumes excess as it is impossible for them to keep a check on individuals.
Why not ban the alcohol at once ,which is also in the constitution(DPSP).Being Gandhian principle to ban intoxicating elements.Because Govt revenue is more from the Alocohol, even some state the revenue is one fourth from the alcohol Govt will not ban it
On tax payers money
Give ads on ill effects of alcohols Giving free medical aid from the govt Employing police near pubs
When alcohol does no good for society then why govt doesnt ban it.
Suspending Driving license in not a right solution. Bar goers must appoint drivers to avoid druken driving. It will generate employment and bring a sense of safety for others.
It is sad to see that drunken drivers are being sentenced to imprisonment like common criminals. They are not criminals. It is not a wilful criminal act.
Hefty fine for drunken driving and withdrawning of the driving license, if it is repeated is the right punishment.
