The I-pad seems like an awsome device. Its very portable, its way much better than a netbook ( which can only be read in landscape mode). It has apple office applications like keynote, pages and i-photo. The screen quality and the touch response it fantastic. Reading books/pdfs should be awsome with that kind of resolution. With a gps add-on we will have a 10 inch GPS, fantastic for navigation. To me , it looks like a netbook killer . The Biggest problem with it is 1. no camera . However I believe some compnies are making a connectable camera. 2. 16gb of space ( for 500$ just this , shame on you). Any standard netbook has 160GB.
I will wait for the next gen as also the notion-ink adam before I decide what to buy.
Journalists may not be well versed with technology, agreed, but i don't think customers buying a product are fools. They wud do a study and spend, and if u r aware, then i must inform u that apple has been the steadiest company reporting profits. Iphone is the highest selling mobile phone ever in the world, by sheer number of units and that inspite of not having a huge portfolio of models nokia or sony ericsson. They ve rocked the mobile industry in that segment with one just model for the last three years, and selling it in huge numbers, and this cannot happen just by journalism and media, coz finally people are paying for it not the media! My HTC phone hangs every week, but the iphone has never ever done that. Ipod was a rage when it started coz they were trend setters, of course other companies, like u said offer better features, but why didn't they launch their product before ipod? Even Chinese mobile phones are loaded with features, dual sim, television etc etc, but can u cpmpare it with nokia? Technology does not mean features, it means quality. Compare how many times a windows operating system hangs and then see how many times a mac hangs, no comparison! If they charge u more, they give u more (not necessarily features). COmpare a feature rich Skoda Laura and then a less featured mercedes benz, wud u still say laura is better than a mercedes? NO way!

Yes it is a bigger ipod touch. Big screen, better browsing, better gaming, better ebook reading. Was there any doubt? FYI, the iPad sold 1 million in 1 day. get it. 1 day. So much for haters piling on the hate. I just got a Deja vu of June 2007
