Trust you with your interesting experiences and i, many time wonder why such un-realistic expectations so hyped up.

I really enjoyed reading this article.. Liked your style of writting.

Thanks to DOVE - they had started a new campaign which i had seen say around 5 years ago where Big is healthy and nice. Trust me those models were more appealing than the size Zero ones.

Fortunately the Fashion Freternity is waking up too and looking up for more realistic body as models.

Hopefully we'll have better role models than Kareena's size zero getting flashed all across in all forms of Media and better awareness is endorssed by so called responsible Medium (Print, Electronic and other media formats)

Cheers!
A R

Am glad that you have shown leadership by taking up this theme of changing Indian mentality of aping the west in your article on the 'size zero' & its impact on childhood.

@Readers: I have intrigued by the author's name as it struck me for something related to current affairs. Got it cleared when I saw the footnote stating that she is an IAS officer in UP. Yes, this is the lady whose name was supposedly involved in Mulayam's controversial speech. We support you madam as an icon of women empowerment.

What will you say if your ten year child, after reading newspaper innocently asks "What is meant by gangrape?"
Situations like these are difficult to handle.

To get size Zero,
1. Develop good food habits (go for natural food)
2. Do little bit of free hand exercise
3. Sleep early & get up early...get good sleep

My parents did the same,am doing it...NEVER FEEL CONCERNED TO GET 'SIZE ZERO'...ME & MY FAMILY VISITS DOCTORS 'ONCE IN A BLUE MOON' WE ARE FIT & FINE BY THE GRACE OF GOD....

Well, I'm a father of 10 year old girl. I get such questions everyday. Mostly from TV, News, and from our (my wife and I) conversations over heard by her. Being an Indian I find difficult to answer only on two issues: First one related to sex and second one related to sexually related crimes. Two reasons I find it hard is because of our family culture where sex is a forbidden subject to discuss openly and second my daughter is too young to discuss on such subjects.

However I try every possible way to make her understand on all other subjects. For example Author says explaining size zero is very hard. It would have been most easy subject for me though. All you have to say is "now a days grown up girls and women love to be thin without any body fat. They think they look pretty that way. However body needs some amount of fat to stay healthy. So staying healthy is more important in a long run than looking beautiful with some misconception without a strong body is no use." I agree it may take few extra sentences to convince a 10 year old girl. So we need to be in their shoe and explain. We cant blame the todays information world (easy access to books, TV, newspaper and internet) for the kid's curiocity. we should best use the today's information world to educate our child rather than blinding them today and keep them in a paradise world and make them think entire world is paradise. Sooner or later they grow up and try to understand the world by themselves and look at the harsh

well, I kinda can relate to the situation that you are going through. Honestly, today's kids are exposed to a lot of information through media in their early ages thus, such questions being raised out of curiosity are just natural. I believe parents need to patiently and carefully. It is important for the kids to know about basic sex education in their early teens. I have seen that kids respond very responsibly to such guidance if provided in an appropriate way.

With Size Zero your life can reduce by many years!

If u see many recent stars going down to size zero, u will see them growing old faster.

One best example is Shahrukh Khan. He is looking almost 57 years now even though he is 43.

And look at Anil Kapoor, Sunny Deol, Sanjay Dutt they still look 45!

Akshay Kumar still looks 34!

Size Zero thing makes the sexiest look flat!
Look wht made a plump and sexy Kareena look in Tashan! She lost her feminity, rather sex appeal.

Oils are neccessary for survival. 2 teaspoons of oil are neccessary every day for good hair, skin and most important bones. But exercising along with it is also important. Warm up exercises are the best fast ongoing ones.
Surya Namaskar, Dips and Sit-ups, crunches are enough for a fit body.

If 2 people one with fats and other lean has to survive on a island without food and water, the one with fats will survive much longer.

The leaner u try to be at 30's and 40's the more stretched/dry will be your skin resulting in wrinkles day by day.

Cow Ghee if eaten in right proportions is useful in burning fats and killing bacteria within our body.

We dont have to follow the Uneducated West and dump our 1 million year old Ayurveda. Ayurveda was adopted by Mughals too and taken to ARbic Nations as Unani Medicine in 795AD under the regime of Khilji.

Old people were wiser than the now experimenting westerners.

your argument is illogical. there are so many western actresses and models who are size zero and they look fantastic way into their 40s. size zero has got nothing to do with how would you look a decade later.
as far as sex appeal is concerned, all of us have different tastes. if a size zero woman doesn't tickle your brain, there are plenty of other men to whom it does.

I disagree. Dutt doesnt look he's 40. He looks like a sixty year old, with his face sagging.

Being Fat is not healthy... it reduces your confidence and health.

At the same itme I am not saying Size Zero is healthy. I guess, Size 6 is the best.
