please make sure you implement a good reporting structure what ever the department you join. Reporting daily or weekly twice deffinitely will make diiference in output. well you know all these as you were in s/w field.
Please be an honest officer and don't get sucked into the corrupt bureaucracy. Lot of bright people get into civil services just to earn money. Hope u live upto ur dreams.

Congratulations!! But I am sorry to say that soon you will become part of suitcase culture.
infact congragulations to you to be frank it was a great and gutful decision to resign and to prepare and clear the civil exam now you are a Proud Indian Officer.
