People with blinkers
by nike nike on Jun 01, 2009 11:00 PM  | Hide replies

I really cannot understand hypocrites such as Karthik and Yatin who think that 1) Racism doesnt exist 2) that we Indians donot know how to behave.3) that they are better than us esp in case of Karthik coz he was born there and that Indians should refrain from going anywhere else in the world coz Australians donot like to see so many Indian people. I really pity these people who think they we should not in our mother tongue amonsgt ourselves......why should we repress ourselves. Like somebody said that Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Arabic people donot stop talking in their native languages just to be pleasing to anybody. Why can't we be ourselves provided we donot cross boundaries of decency.
I think we should take the richness and goodness in our culture everywhere and live life to the fullest.

I understand a lot of people wrote that we have to adapt to their culture. But i want to know how many aussies adapt to our culture when they r here?
We all know how much manners aussies have .. we have examples of shane warne.. greg chapell .. and so on. V r one nation who is boosting other nations economy and then want to change ourself for them. Y cnat we study in our own country and earn some self respect world wide.

Tutul, its rightly said (rather recommended) to adapt to the cultural norms of any country / province where you visit ... Lets take few examples ...
(1) Assume that You are in travelling in a metro train, and a chinese sitting next to you blares a chines or cantonese song in full volume just because it is his favorite song ... what would be your reciprocation (dont say, just realize) ... Scenes like these are very common in India, but this is considered a very bad manner elsewhere, anywhere outside India => This is considered culture

(2) You are standing in a queue to get a ticket, few chaps get along in groups, over to the counter, ignoring the queue, and bags their tickets, making a sheer mockery of the queue in which you are standing ... tell me your feelings ... this happens only in India => and this is termed as culture shift

(3) You are driving, screeches to a halt at a traffic signal, and You are hit from behind by someone for whom there is no traffic signal in existence. Moreover, you are preached not to stop at any traffic signal and he justifies saying that look none of the vehicles are stopping, so why are you adamant to stick to rules => this is our culture

(4) We goto McDonalds, eat our heart out, but never care to take the tray from the table, and dump it in the trash-can => culture

There are numerous instances where we dont believe in any cultural or social etiquettes, and thats what is being talked about here

Hope You take me on a positive note

I would like to know from all the Australianologists:
1.If the Australians are so intolerant that they want to bomb, maim, beat up anybody who speaks an alien language or does not praise Australian cricket, is it really worth to go to Australia.
2. If most of the Australians live hand to mouth after finishing education, is it realyy worth to study in Australian universities.
3.Will it be wrong if the Indian students start carrying knives(huge kitchen knives), screw drivers, or cycle chains etc. and, while they need not use them, they can always weild them once in a while!

all three are good ideas..

only problem with idea no. 3 is that in a racist country like australia, if you are caught with anything like a knife, you can have the fiercest kind of reaction from police..

an australian born ruffian can afford to be caught, not a student away from home..

To all you NRIs who think Indians misbehave abroad and deserve it
by Sarthak Sharma on Jun 01, 2009 10:34 PM  | Hide replies

You guys are a bunch of people who have no opinion of your own,and the one you hold about your fellow countrymen is copied from the whites whom you've sworn to bootlick till death.Let me tell you the truth to those who are barking about Indians misbehaving abroad-
1)You guys don't give a rat's ass when a foreigner comes to India and kisses in Temples or mock Indians' accent.I challenge anyone who mentioned Indian 'loud' or 'arrogant' behaviour abroad as the reason for all this.If there's a shred of common-sense in you then just come to home and talk loudly and i'll drive a screwdriver up your head and tell you it's because you were loud.I'd want to see your reaction.
2)You jump to defend your adopted country and say "all australians are not racist" ignoring the fact that 20 incidents in Sydney alone in the span of 15 days has taken place against the same community with many including racist abuses and the crimes are just repeating day after day.
3)Go to hell if you are saying "India should first learn to make amends inside the country and then complain about Australia".My foot.No matter how bad the reality of India might be,you people are a blot on the name of the country which you have left.I have reasons for that.No matter how bad India's system may be,a human life doesn't lose its value come what may and it's loss needs to be strongly protested.India can do without you.It doesn't need your certificate,or your feedback.Jai Hind.

well said, sarthak..

i think if we can find an australian, let us attack him and tell him how filthy his country and his forefathers are..

tell him that his country is made up of descendents ruffians, thugs, thieves, murderers, rapists and generally unwanted people deported from UK..

this will definitely create an uproar and then, they will realize what racism is..

You might be in the US, where the standard of students doing MS courses or PhD is generally on the higher side.....

No doubt Indians in New Jersey are on the brazen and louder side but that has more to do with the fact that there are close knit Indian communities in Jersey in large numbers rather than the fact that they are uncouth.....Most Indian students in the US are generally well behaved, courteous and studious.....

As far as Australia is concerned, the story is dramatically different.....Students with poor academic track record from Tier 2 and Tier 3 colleges going for undergrad courses and a minority going for MBA courses with the average GMAT score in the range of 570 to 600....yeah, you can check it with IMS or Time......

Even though i don't want to come across as snotty, the poor standard of Indian students going to Australia is exemplified by the very low percentage of those who actually end up with white collar jobs...most end up doing menial jobs at gas stations and restaurants....many of them are extremely badly behaved and are culturally quite backward.....also, as they eat into grassroots jobs of Australians, there is a resentment that has built up over a period of time.....

And even though that does not justify any violence perpetrated against them, there is a lot of soul searching that the Indian community and the Aussie univs who admit them, have to do......

@wholeworldstinks: calm,my friend. As much as it pains you to see our people getting beaten up,it pains me.But remember one thing, what will be the difference between us and them if we fall into the temptation of beating them up?That'll give us only temporary satisfaction. The way to hit them hardest is to spread the message how awful Australia can be.We need to realise the fact that it's THEY who need us than the other way round.Education is the 3rd largest industry in Australia and Indians comprise of 18% of the migrant student population.Once these start returning,we can see the aussies returning to their pssycat ways like we see in cricket.

@Utpal Parekh: Firstly,i'm not in USA.I'm in INDIA.Secondly, whatever may be the job profile of the Indians in Australia, even if they go as hawkers, cabbies, salesmen, they have equal right to party till late,go out as they please, and integrate into the society.Hell, the pay taxes too.Leave the shithole if it's as inhospitable as this. And those people who think it's all cool, can stay back and India won't regret their absence.Let them have a screwdriver up their skull, cos even though I don't want it,that's the only thing that'll make them realise what it feels.

Search for "This is Australia NOT INDIA !!! F**K OFF !!!" on facebook. Its a guy from Melbourne, Australia called Robert Attard . He's openly preaching violence against Indians.

If you have a facebook account please do go and report this person. Facebook need to verify if this is a genuine person, if he is I think the Melbourne police needs to be informed so that they can shake him down. And atleast if it goes through the media they can't sya this kind of stuff does not happen in Australia and bury it!

Lord know if this guy is just trying to gain notoriety & publicity or if he's got a deepeer connection to this traversity.

Tips to Indians living in Australia
by Debanjan Banerjee on Jun 01, 2009 09:22 PM  | Hide replies

Mates here are some tips for you to live in Australia :

1. Support Aussies in Cricket.Make the other Aussies feel that u r with them even if u r from India.Praise Aussie cricketers and raise some aussie flags if possible.
2. Learn abt some great aussies.(though there are very few)
3. Learn aussie accent.
4. Try to live in a group.
5. Make the Aussies feel that you want to join them you want to contribute towards their country.

Note : It is quite interesting that these sorts of incidents are happening with the Indians but I have never seen these kinds of incidents with Pakistanis who probably look a lot like the Indians. Can you tell me what could be the reason behind it ?
