reg: Unsolicited calls - credit card agencies
by sivakumaran subash on May 19, 2008 11:35 AM

Hi,
Inspite of registering with DNCR, i get unsolicited calls. Yesterday evening i got a call from an associate of HDFC bank for offering HDFC card. Obviously the individual would have extracted the details from my HDFC bank account. Day by day this menance of unsolicited calls is increasing. Banks should evolve a revised model code of conduct for their credit card section employees.

Boycott them
by Sam on Apr 04, 2008 12:40 PM  | Hide replies

The best way to discourage tele-marketers is to either disconnect the line the moment they say they are from a bank/insurance company or tell them firmly that you are not interested in their offer.

Moreover, all of us should not patronise any organisation that uses the services of tele-marketers and we need to be firm about it. Lets boycott all such organisations. These are the only three ways by which we can get rid of this menace.

For those who are being harassed by recovery agents/calls, take legal action immediately if you are in the right. Demand a hefty compensation (Rs. 1 cr or more) and press for it.

Any mistake/violation by a services provider is viewed as a money-making opportunity in the US. We should also do the same in India.

Charging of premium for Insurance which was not opted by me
by bharati patwardhan on Mar 29, 2008 01:30 PM  | Hide replies

A sweet talking executive offered me a credit card of HSBC Bank and starting charging me a premium of around Rs.500/- per month for the policy which I had never taken. This has been happening for past one and half years and the statement comes every month charging me late payment fees, service charges, finance charges etc. etc. Inspite of contacting them on phone, fax, e-mails they have not reversed the charges. I have also sent letters but have been overlooked. They have asked me to send fax to Tata AIG who has allotted a policy to me (when I have not signed any papers etc.) I have been harassed by the call centres practically everyday for payment to HSBC. Please do not fall prey for credit card. It is just a nuisance and harassment everyday. Now I do not know how to go about all this situation. Is there any complaint centre, consumer court where I can express my grievances. Call centre executives just do their routine work and abuse me. How do I get rid of all this situation? Please help

He can go the court. But the problem starts if this in any way harms his credit rating. In the future anytime he/she wants a loan, it could be very troublesome.

Same happened 2 me, too. I stopped TATA AIG's policy, over phone to their helpline as well as in writing. HSBC continued billing me premium. Wrote again to HSBC. Nothing happened. Card was deactivated. No reply was given to many letters written to HSBC. Ultimately they had to admit & gave me full credit agst the charges. An amount of Rs. 701/- became more than Rs. 7500/- with interests/late charges/Service taxes etc.

I think you should immediately talk to a good lawyer and slap a legal notice on both the bank and insurance company. You should also lodge a complain with the consumer court in your city without further delay.

Believe me the problem will not go away by keeping quite. You need to be aggressive and show these rogues theis place. I am sure you will win the litigation and you can also demand payment of your legal expenses from these parties, along with a hefty compensation.

In case of abuse, always take details of full name of the caller, co's name, phone no.(landline), time of call etc. Tell them, you will complain to appropriate authority, if they misbehave or pressurize. There is Supreme Court ruling, preventing coersive method(s) to extort money from defaulters (genuine or not).

Neither should one go for a credit card of any bank. Most commoners actually do not need a credit card. They only have to see this point to be free of loads of worry (unless one is the type of person who can be tenuous enough to derive the last bit of utility from cards without incurring any cost).

DISSERVICE INDUSTRY

Whether it is credit card, personal loan, educational loan, home loan, auto loan or business loan, AND whether it is Reliance phone or Tata Indicom or Airtel / Vodafone or BPL OR for that matter, any service industry, India is not yet ready to come with rules and regulations, terms and conditions and policy guidelines to control these service providers. Rather, they are doing you a disservice by (1) harassing with marketing calls, (2) when you agree to their service and avail them, they never provide good serice, rather directing and redirecting you to various other centres of their service, wasting your time, energy, money and creating a sense of anger at their disservice. Even after cancelling after due clearance of all dues, calls still emanate asking for outstanding, sending bills inspite of clearance and telling spare pares from China not arrived, when asked for a replacement of a card or USB or drive.
When they could not provide service during the intervening period, still they go on charging and collecting money thru recovery agents (read goondas) and also resorting to sending legal notice. They are slightly worst that established mafias. Indian should ban all these companies and / or put under black list (Holiday list) for a period ranging from 5 years to 50 years from conducting business in India. Alternatively, wait for another 10 / 15 years for them to improve their services and continue to suffer. Though owner of these companies are reputed, ser

I had a dispute with Tata Indicom over billing (Mobile - postpaid). The line was deactivated. Finally settlement took place & the negotiated amount was paid by cash, across the table, with proper receipt. Calls continued coming even 2 days after this settlement, from the recovery agents.

10 ways to stop all those irritating calls...

10 ways to stop all those irritating calls...

1. After the telemarketer finishes speaking, ask him/her to marry you.
2. Tell the telemarketer you are busy at the moment, and ask him/her if he/she will give you his/her home phone number so you can call him/her back.
3. Ask them to repeat everything they say, several times.
4. Tell them it is dinner time, BUT ask if they would please hold. Put them on your speaker phone while you continue to eat at your leisure. Smack your food loudly and continue with your dinner conversation.
5. Tell them that all business goes through your agent, and hand the phone to your five year old child.
6. Tell them you are hard of hearing and that they need to speak up...louder...louder...louder!
7. Tell them to speak very slowly because you want to write every word down.
8. If they start out with, "How are you today?", say "I'm so glad you asked, because no one these days seems to care, and I have all these problems............"
9. Cry out in surprise, "Helen, is that you? I've been hoping you'd call! How is the family?" When they insist they are not Helen, tell them to stop joking. This works especially well if the telemarketer is really MALE.
10. Tell the HSBC call center guy to call on your office number. - and give him the ICICI call center number.

Reading an article in a newspaper regarding NDNC, I have registered my mobile number for the same. While earlier I used to get 1 or atmost 2 unsolicited calls per week, now I am getting 10-12 stupid calls per week!!! SBI never called me for a credit card offer before. It called me some 20 times in 2 months AFTER I got an SBI card for a credit card offer!!! Remember, if you did not post your resume and are not expecting any calls from job consultants, then the probability that all calls from airtel landline and tataindicom landline numbers are marketing calls is more than 90%.

1. If you are being offered a credit card from any bank, tell them that you already own a Titanium credit card from their bank and tell them the limit is 1 lakh.
2. If you are offered a personal loan, tell them that you dont require it at all as you have excess money and dont know what to do with it.
3. If you are offered advise on investment or insurance plans, tell them that you dont have any money to invest and you are looking for loan to feed yourself the next month.
