cutting commuting costs

Your advices are well taken, But why not advice Govt and politicians also who are also “supposed” not expected to contribute to nations prosperity
AI have a car and started using scooter everyday for last 2 months.

I have a a very simple suggestion which might lead to some miniscule saving of precious oil.
1.      Synchronization of all signals as motorist stand for even one minute and waste precious oil. This way the saving across the country could run millions of barrel in a day ( Sorry it is only a guess)
2.      Maintain roads ( without the corruptions this is definitely possible ) and the motorist will not apply unnecessary brakes and clutches, to avoid the pothole sorry it should be called ponds , which will also help in saving some precious oil.
3.      To make speed barkers more meaningful and not painful again can save some fuel.

There can hundreds of such small things which greedy politicians can do, like protocol cars to be dismantled, blockade of roads for VIP movements, Finishing the road projects and flyovers so traffic jams can be avoided etc instead of only preaching

Improve income
by Aftab on Aug 02, 2008 12:28 PM

Dont get sacred of inflation and get stuck in the hole by reducing expenses.

Manage your time and use the potential that one has to generate more income.

Enjoy life to the hilt. But avoid shortcuts and unethical means to generate income.

Inflation is a cyclic phenomenon and it will keep going up & down. But believe me that the contribution of India in Gross world domestic product has shown remarkable increase and the trend is unstoppable.

We will see more Tata, Ambani & Mittals in coming years who will keep inspiring young generation to work hard, intelligently and take risks

fostered economic growth
by cheriyan jacob on Aug 02, 2008 12:26 PM

These tips are for whom? It suits lower middle class or lower class who live on fixed monthly income. But you should encourage upper middle and upper class to spend more. In a 100% capitalist environment, fostered economic growth is required and it is possible only by the stake holders spending more and more. If none spend, all industry will come down and will land up in deep trouble. Small example is, if you stop eating fish as part of cost cutting, most of the fishermen folks in your are will be in trouble. I have seen it during post tsunami period when fishwalas were forced to take up other jobs as none wanted to touch fish. Similar thing happended during bird flue

There are really certain jobs which could be performed from home. A "twice or thrice a week" meeting to sort out matters which require personal meeting could be planned. This will save on the commution : cost, time, other things, a lot! This is the best solution for the Mumbai Local Train / BEST Bus Commuters. In morning one direction mode of transport is over-crowded & at the same opposite direction vehicles are almost empty. Vise-a-versa in the evening!!

PUBLIC TRANSPORT
by Mathew Grace on Jul 31, 2008 12:34 PM  | Hide replies

THIS IS FOR BANGALORE CITY.

MONTHLY PASSES OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF PUBLIC TRASPORT SYSTEM IS AVAILABLE IN BANGALORE.
MAKE GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES COMPULSORILY TO BUY MONTHLY PASSES. AS THIS WILL NOT ONLY REDUCE THE DIESEL COST BUT ALSO FINANCIALLY HELP FINANCIAL GAIN BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT SYSTEM. FOR USING THEIR OWN VEHICLE, TRANSPORT ALLOWANCE SHOULD BE LIMITED TO MONTHLY PASSES. THIS MOVE WILL DRASTICALLY REDUCE BRINGING OWN VEHICLES TO OFFICE. HOWEVER, WHO CAN ENFORCE SUCH RULES?
