I wrk in an MNC in Bengaluru, and its amazing these so-called educated s/w engineers have absolutely no etiquette when it comes to mobiles. In almost every meeting, speech by CEO, there is always someones mobile ringing, esp with the latest bolly hindi number, which irritates everyone, and distubs the flow of the meeting. And the same in movie halls, gatherings etc. And sad part: no solution in sight. Perhaps the silent mode is not effective enuf

We indians lack some basic etiquettes and donot learn them unless told by others.People with middle class background or those who have newly become rich would take some time to adjust and learn the westernised etiquttes.Even Britishers who ruled india for 200 years couldnot teach the indians so allow another min 50 years for things to settle down.

Dear Friends, I hv worked for many MNC's, and noted that, most of the qualified personnel hv absolutely no manners. They talk loudly on their mobiles, take tea cups inside the working area, drop the same as if its their birthright!. If not cleant immediately , they hv the nerve to complain. Then they eat foodstuffs at place of work, instead of the Canteen, and they complain aggressiveky if flies and other insects keep hanging around the dropped food particles!! There are so many other ill manners, especially some educated lot chewing gutka, and spitting in the waste paper bin or around the premises!!We cant expect the lower working class and others to stop being ill mannered! Then the male folks ,most of 'em, whether educated or not, hv this nasty habit of just gaping at women/woman. Avir, you have rightly said the Britishers couldnt teach us manners in 200 yrs!!
It is very depressing to see that even in a column on office etiquette, we have not stopped demarcating on the basis of gender.
Why do you only have to open a door and hold it for women, only? You should do it for anyone, gender notwithstanding.
These subtle differences tell that deep down int he society we have not yet started treating women as equals. Please grow up and start taking women seriously and as equals. Stop demarcating on gender.

Please read the article carefully - "In fact, whoever reaches a door first, irrespective of gender, needs to hold the door open for the person behind. It is such a simple task and yet so many of us fail to do it."

It's a good article from a reputed trainer. If you know all the manners, just keep quite. It is useful to many - don't criticise anything if you don't like it. This is not a good manner. You should learn a lesson from the article as to how to deal with a matter, which you don't agree with.

Murali..my little kid...why dont you keep 'quiet' instead of asking me to be 'quite'? We condemn the article for ourselves and if you are so fond of it, why dont you take a personal tution/coaching from the writer?

if you are criticizing Murali for "quite" and "quiet", then you should not be saying "immitation" (look at your previous post !) !!!!

Not even that Ashutosh. The article points to desi things like call person with name: mr. verma or mr. shah. That's bullshit in today's word. i think writer is not updated since a decade back.

More than desi, it is an immitation of what British taught us to do.
One of the key things that happens in all work places is ego.. followed by attitude problems and then arrogence. So, all these manners is good to read but no one follows this..

This is cent percent true. I support your comments. It is unfortunate that we never pay any heed to this important aspect of human behavioural issue for which perhaps we don't have to spent any thing rather we earn many things like goodwill & fame atleast!
