My Bypass surgery was held in 1997 and since then I am leading a normal healthy life. Can I opt now for Mediclaim and which scheme will be most suitable for me.

Mediclaim

A Few things about mediclaim have never been made clear,

1. If I take a policy at age say 40 and the policy runs for let us say 4 years or more. If suppose I get high blood pressure, and diabetes at age 45 what is the liability of the insurer, if I declare it upon renewal/ and what if I do not declare it?

2. If with the same policy I get a heart attack at age 45, what is the liabilty of the insurer at the time of renewal?

3. Which company is doing insurance (first time) of a healthy 72 year old? Please send me details and representative.

4. What is the responsibilty of the Company to renew the policy in time? Generally all companies try to delay renewal so that they do not have to pass on the benefits to the customer. This is my personal experience with all public sector mediclaim providers as well as Bajaj Alliance since over 15 years.

Insurance Co. cheats ... and poor Insured waste their money
by Dipesh Sheth on Jul 22, 2006 01:25 PM

1.      Insurance Company has a peculiar habit of delaying the things as they are deriving some sadistic pleasures to harass the Insured.
2.      Why can not Insurance Company make it mandatory to get the health-check up done by themselves so that at future date the hassle of pre existing disease is not raised and customer do not get irritated.
3.      Even when the policy is enhanced and when all the tests and documents are provided and when there is no exclusion of any disease mentioned on the policy, even then at the time of claim despite of taking more premium Insurance Co. takes a plea of old disease or pre existing disease.
4.      By any means this pre existing thing should be deleted. Insured do not mind undergoing any number of tests before taking the policy but when the policy is granted and when the Insurance Co. charges premium for number of years, at the time of claim Insurance Co. should try to pay the claim gracefully.
5.      The efforts Insurance Co. takes at the time of claim should be shifted at the time of underwriting so that majority of the irritation is avoided.
6.      They always have a plea that the illness was due to some pre existing disease. Does not matter the poor Insured is

Companies underwriting Mediclaim Policies
by A.V.K.G. SASTRY on Jul 22, 2006 01:18 PM

You have mentioned some of the companies only underwriting Mediclaim Policies. M/s STAR HEALTH AND ALLIED INSURANCE COMPANY LIMITED, is a stand alone Health Insurance Company, licenced by IRDA and marketing Health Insurance Products. The premium rates are also competetive compared to other Companies and more add on covers are availble without extra premium.

I would like to know if there are any mediclaim policies that are lifelong or some fixed term on a long term basis. also if any policies ( not life insurance) are there which just give critical illness cover on a lifelong basis.
