Hats off to Rashmi for opening the eyes of many Indians abroad orwho are planning to migrate for a few dollars more, where they planning to live in an artificial world. I feel every individual is a coward to face the real facts of life, so they look for different pasture to hide their cowardness. what ever it is, MERA BHARAT MAHAN HAI.I feel one should really go deep and decide whether to migrate or stay back in our own beautiful INDIA.

Dear Reshmi,

Your article was indeed a great piece to read. But you definitely missed an important point......

Different individuals have different dreams. And they work hard to achieve them.No matter how rupee is going to balance with dollars. We cannot neglect the quality of life in developed countries and of course a far better CONSTITUTION to govern.....:))

Verily verity
by Aniruddha on Aug 02, 2005 12:45 PM

Your article is verity in itself. I am pleased to see that you have managed to capture the thought process of the newly-landed-in-US desi. I believe that you actually spoke to someone in my position while writing this, and therefore have you managed to connect.

As one of the members of this breed who is transitioning from the thrifty phase to the accepted phase, and is juggling questions about whether to stay here or go back, I am glad to see another's viewpoint on the subject.

truth about $$ salaries.....
by sutton on Aug 02, 2005 08:18 AM

Very few people settled in US think about the conversion rates. Only part time visitors take the conv rates and as we see logically, high paying jobs are abundant. You can't switch for an easy 30L job from 1 company to other. Here you can do it all the time. 5 years down the road move from X to Y you get from $130 G to $170 G. So its worth the way !!

The reasons wny I went to US:
1. Money
2. A better standard of living
3. Culture (I was brought up in Dubai)

The reasons why I came back to India.
1. For the chaos - It is amazing to stay in a country where even booking a railway ticket can result in utter shambles
2. For the risks - To not know what lays behind the next curve ..
3. To be with my people - To be with people who look like me,talk like me and eat like me
4. To feel alive...... To live evey moment of my life

Bravo Rash, this article really captures what most of us Desis do and think in US of A.

Reason number 3 does not gell at all. Did you try to integrate with the society at large when you were allegedly in the US? Or were you looking in from the outside, a refugee on the fringe? And are now glad to be "home" again?
