BETTER IF CONGRESS BLOWS UP NATION RATHER THAN ASKING COMMUNAL BJP TO RULE.

Inspite of winning 206 seats, these people are not sure on how to go about the government.

Sample this with the BJP/NDA government in 1998, BJP won 189 seats formed the alliance and made the Prime Minister the head of the alliance, to maintain discipline. Mamta tried to act funny and Vajpayee showed her the door.

Still NDA govt. did not have any no confidence motions, majority proving sessions in the parliament.

Some alliance govt. we have today.

The important thing is that Karunanidhi sings his own poem written in praise of LTTE, to Sonia and she remembers nothing about how our dear Rajiv Gandhi was cruelly murdered by LTTE. Sharad Pawar never supported Manmohan Singh as PM. Now he wants more ministries. Sangma who opposed Congress so vociferously, now wants his daughter to be minister. Mamata Bannerji thinks that she owns the Rly Ministry and that she has the mandate to use it solely for the Bongla region. Soon, every other remaining MP will ask for something. Such spineless, gutless people should immediately give up further talks and meetings like this and ask all these parties that they go strictly by PM`s prerogatives and nothing else. Alternatively, ask those sup0porting parties to leave UPA.

Lion's Share

The problem with the Allies have been sorted. Now the delay is due to problem arising within the Congressmen, who are desiring the lion's share in Ministry.

Congress is the largest party in loksabha and they are entitled to largest number of ministers. Selecting 50 ministers from 200 MPs take time... (we have seen DMK with 18 seats taking one week to decide ministers from Karunanidhi's own family)

DMK matter was different. It was a reconcilation issue.

Secondly, for any issues there can be causes or reasons, whether the same is justified for the Country has to be seen.

People have overwhelmingly elected Congress. It is the party's choice as to who should become minister. Party leaders take decision and it is fully justified.

Who is saying that it is not party's choice ? Has anybody said. Of course, any party forms the Govt., its men will take the ministrial oath. Why so delay ? Each second is precious for the country.

Delay by a few days does not make any difference as all key ministerial posts are already filled on the first day itself. Selecting 50 ministers from 200 MPs will take time. Moreover, the party has to ensure representation for each state, region, religion, etc. Let them take time and take good decision

There is no 'returning mandate' in democracy. You cannot overlook people's mandate. Party makes PM and ministers and it is the party, which is elected by the people and not PM.

Party decides ministers, so it's alright for PM to meet Sonia
by Murali on May 27, 2009 02:39 PM  | Hide replies

India is a democracy and people elect political parties to form government. It is the prerogative of each party in the ruling coalition to decide on who to become a minister. Since Sonia is the president of Congress party, there is nothing to make hue & cry of Manmohan Singh's meeting with Sonia. It is not America where people elect president and president selects his ministers.

Party president is above all others... no doubt about that. The news item itself says Sonia has discussed with core group, therefore decision by individual does not arise.

PM was selected by Party and not directly elected by electorate. As party was elected by electorate, it decides on ministers and not the PM alone.

There is no question of PM's descretion here. Party has to decide on ministers and then only PM comes in the picture while deciding on portfolios.

Yes, it is a party who decides the person to be PM. Once it is decided, then PM runs the Govt. and he is the PM of India, not a party. PM has certain powers. Supposingly, if party chief conducts some misdeed, then PM has the power to enforce a law on Party President. Therefore, PM has got the authority to choose the ministries, as now he is in Govt.. Every election winner cannot be minister. As xyz has not opted for any ministry, xyz has no locus standi to interfere into PMs discretion.
