One swallow does not make summer
by Alok Arora on May 20, 2009 11:44 AM  | Hide replies

We Indians just love blowing our small victories out of proportion. Just because in this election ostensibly caste-based-calculations have gone wrong, we are making it look as if centuries of discrimination and decades of caste-based-politics have disappeared. Jeez. Talk of over-reaction (or should I say gullibility)!

I think you are mixing two different aspects. Discrimination is still there and will be there for some more years to come. Caste based politics were increasing the discrimination rather than reducing. These groups were not empowering the casts they choose for champoioning but make them more dependant groups and above observation is more about the end of those dependant groups. It is a clear case in this election that cast played no role. I can give you the example of Andhra where a very popular film star and leader of a specific cast could not create the magic that was made possible by Late NTR couple of decades ago. The very attitude of separating the electorate into cast groups appears to be not working for now. Depending the challenges we all face as a society we may try to revive cast system and use it as a weapon to gain some popularity and finally some selfish gains.

lets wait for the next rung of elections and we will know the reality. Vote of the basis of caste, creed and religion is handiwork of politicians who want to divide the society. They are in large numbers today and it may not be a fair idea to discard them as yet. They will bouce back with further plans and the divide will continue.

The irony of the situation is that casteism is supported and protected by the Constitution of India as amended during several Congress governments. There is no region and no religion in the country that is free of this social cancer. In north, the muslims have castes like ansaris(weavers) and qureshis (buthcers), christians and sikhs have dalits. And no use blaming the mythological entity Manu for propogation of casteist. He presided over, if he ever existed, compilation of laws as prevalent during his times, a earlier day Ambedkar. Each and every political party and outfit in the country are giving impetus to communalism and casteism besides regionalism. In fact, most of the politicians are bane of the society.

But why single out Bihar & UP? In mahashtra congress has practised this for last 50 years!! & they still talk of SAMPRADayik Taktose ladana hai!!The congress practised Lower house Patil/upper house Patil tactics to keep deserving Bramhins out.

how you will end Casteism ??
by ss sk on May 20, 2009 11:09 AM  | Hide replies

Casteism is attached with Religion called Hindu. Total Castes including, SC, ST, OBC and others are more than 5000 (incl. sub-castes)
In reality, society is totally divided and cut-off from one another.
We shoudnot think in terms of Elections on the basis of Castes but we should think about uniting the Whole society which is very difficult task.
Thanks to Manu and guardians of Manu.. This system will go-on and on.. for how long.. god only knows...
(Somebody in this forum will deny that there is no caste bias now a days.. but 80% of the population lives in villages and i dont need to explain how the villages stick to rituals, culture and principals )

The reality is that casteism exists in ALL parts of the WORLD, albeit in different names and will continue to exist. It exists among Christians and Muslims too, for your information. So, there is nothing to be blamed on casteism in Hindus alone. Only the main thing to be condemned is extortion in the name of caste and suppression of one community over another. This is sheer exploitation that can be easily arrested if a decent and HONEST government were to administer the country. But, unfortunately, it is all the scoundrels and rogues who call themselves as leaders and are intent upon swindling the country for their personal gains. Even in this election-09, there were MPs implicated in crimes, strewn around different parties - be it BJP or Congress. Unless these criminals are desisted from becoming MPs, can we have a chance for any improvement in the situation.

I think you have answered your own question. If villages hold that much of unenlightened populace, then get them out from there and enlighten them.

well said, our so called secular leaders cannot think beyond quotas/ reservation. aftera all vote bank is more important than any thing else. quota politics will never come to an end and hence castism is very difficult to be eroded from society; this dirty politics will never end hatred from the heart of sufferers due to quota system. this is shear injustice to favour one section only on the basis of caste and deprive one section again on the basis of caste.

It is time for BJP to own a TV news channel else they will persih
by Kamadhenu on May 20, 2009 10:33 AM

Every media is owned by overseas Christian organisations. It was difficult to believe but the Election coverage by TV Media is prooving the point.
BUT NOW IT IS PROVED BEYOND DOUBT.
(1)No TV Media aired the News on the suicide of Senior Vadhera. If any such death had
happened in the family of a BJP person, the Media would have gone agog with the
news.
(2)Teestha Setalwad was exposed of creating most of the Gujarat Riot Stories and in
fact taken the Supreme court almost for a ride.Imagine a similar offence by the
opposite side. There would have been discussions, hen fights, opinion polls and
SMS surveys.

The MEDIA OF THIS DECADE WILL BE REMEMBERED FOR AGES TO COME. IT IS A BLOT ON JOURNALISM.

Is there any Indian who will lodge a criminal case on Testha Setalwad for her crimes against the communal harmony of this country?

End of Cast based politics
by SUBRAMANIAN NAIR on May 20, 2009 10:33 AM

I dont think the end of cast based politics because now people are more care about strong stable national governments. They select only national parties it is very good sign. We aware last 11 years colation government doing very badly specially last five years government not able to do any thing. Because of the colation politics. Still it is going on people are not give full mandate to the congress, The final match is next election the national parties like BJP and Congress. If they not do well people are rout them it is shoure. That is the only reason people of india give one more chance to Manmohan Singh, Last five years he do very badly. This time he not do well people of country give a befitting reply be careful.
