hell with these polititions
by kranti on May 19, 2009 01:10 PM

These local parties are no good for country. When they want to support BJP : they say they want to oppose dynastic politics and strengthen democratic institutions of the country ...
When they want to support Congress: they say they want to stop communal forces...
These parties are actual culprits of gathering votes on caste, region , religion ... etc ..

No Principles at all.

Which party in india is not communal, what siding hindus only mean communal ???? siding Muslim parties is not communal ??

Its always good to have CONgress or BJP at centre
Good thing of this election is the a national party won decisively with out much dependence of Commies and brokers and caste specific parties ..

It will be great in situation of Hung Congress and BJP form a coalition rather than asking support of such divisive forces ...
Atleast at national level ....

Where Indian Politics Heading to?
by S Shrikanth on May 19, 2009 01:09 PM

Maya, Mulayam, Ajit Singh, Sharad Yadav, Deve Gowda - All were claiming sure defeat of Congress before the elections as fought bitterly against it. Now after the results they all want to fill the gap.

Congress has to fill 12 seats and all those itching to fill these 12 seats are deserters and cheaters which can never be trusted. Also, Congress is claiming that next time they will come to power on their own, means death knell for their allies Mamta, Pawar, DMK etc in the next 5 years.

So, te story of opportunism and moral downfall has begun and players have started playing their game. This is a sad part of Indian politics.

And Stock markets are celebrating this!!

I am sure the euphoria will be over and bitter days ahead with opportunists fighting each other for the power.

Cheap backward class mentality. It will not change. It is in their genes. No amount of reservations can change that. They have screwed up the country for the last 60 years with reservation and now they will also screw the world.

what is absolute majority
by kranti on May 19, 2009 01:04 PM  | Hide replies

"in the elections, the UPA coalition got 261 seats just 11 short of the magic figure of 272 required for an absolute majority in the 543-member Lok Sabha. Of this Congress alone got 206 seats."
is 272 is simple majority or Absolute majority.UPA emerged as single largest coalition reachable enough to 272.

272 is simple majority.
absolute majority means 2/3rd of the 543 seats i.e. 358 odd seats. With absolute majority the govt remains more stable as all its policies can be implemented easily without opposition.

The word absolute is used out of context here - they mean simple majority.

For example when lok sabha convenes and they are voting on a particular thing, then absolute majority means that there were more than half of the total strength (543) who voted in favour.
Whereas simple means that on that day if only 300 were present in the lok sabha if 151 voted then it is a simple majority.
