I found 90% of the comments in this board unneccessary and ambiguous. I thank Rediff for this excellent article that presents a clearer view of the politics of perhaps the most important state as far as elections are concerned. Though I do not belong to the state, I reckon this to be the state that represents India the best with the best possible resources across the country. No wonder all great Indian rulers chose UP to be their bases and great thinkers, including Lord Krishna, took birth from this soil. It is unfortunate that due to the modern day politics and several experiments on the electorate has ruined the possibility of the state to perform per potential. I pray and wish this to be the turning point. I believe this to the test for Rahul Gandhi before he establish himself as a visionary leader beyond the sirname of Gandhi.

The henchmen of congress have done a big conspiracy in defeating NDA.There are so many polling boothe from where not even a single vote was casted in favour of BJP condidate,Why?.It is surprising that even poling agents did not cast the vote for whome they were working. It means there had been froud done on extremely large scale. No one likea Ghandi & family as a shadow ruler of this country. They are agent of unsocial elements.

Mr. Srini - The emotional perspective of your comments perhaps indicate that you particularly disliked a certain portion of my comment. Did you?

I do not think there is any substance in this article. Congress rising in the UP was because of one simple factor, i.e Muslim decided not to favour any particular party this time. They decided to defeat BJP at any cost so that Advani does not become PM. Maulavis have asked muslims to vote for any party that is capable of beating BJP. Muslims this time therefore, voted wisely, where they felt BSP candidate can defeat BJP, they voted for BSP, where they felt congress can defeat BJP they voted for BJP and so for SP. Muslims realised that BSP and SP are making only rhetoric and they have least concern for the community like congress. But for them, the major issue was to prevent BJP to win more seats and they succeeded.

I guess I disagree with this comment as Muslim vote only cannot decide this kind of an outcome. Yes it is true that the muslim votes were casted with utmost thoughts and guidance. However, we must not ignore the general mandate by just naming a particular caste/ creed. To repeat the writers point and I agree, this basic misunderstanding of the UP Electorate is the cause of downfall for SP/ BSP/ BJP. I Loved the decision and it does not have any relationship with my personal choice of a particular party.
India;s Obama-in -the-Making Ms Mayawathi( that is Indian Media projected her to be in the run-up to the Election) is licking her wound. Her fool-all policy did not work for long and the people of UP have realised her worth as an Administrator. Her press-conference after results are out is an indicator of politicla maturity.According to her, "Congress party, Sa Paa and Bha Ja Pa ne milkar ek Dalit ki Beti ko harrane ka sadis racha tha"!!!. What a foolsh statement!. Which Political party fights an election to ensure that candidate from opposit party wins? Every political party's aim is to defeat the opponent.Maya should realise that her end has just began and she faces the threat of being wiped out completely in the next election. her so-called social engineering ha sno substance and it is the Media which projected har as larger than life character. They even found Obama in her!! A biggest outcome of this election is all blackmailer parties have been shown their place.People like paswan, laloo, Mulayam, Left party etc have been humbled and made to understand their own worth. They have in fact become irrelevant in India's politics.Congress gained because its allies failed.End of Communism in India will be completed in the next assembly elections in Kerala and WB. That will be a fantastic news.

Your Congress Did not Win Due to Performance or Virtue. It Won Simply because it had Enough Votebanks, Money Power & Media Coverage to win The Elections through deceit.

Mr. L.K. Advani is again sitting in opposition as opposition parliment leader. I think Mr. Advani still thinking that one day he will became PM. He miss & lost the chance this time so there will be no chance for him in future as PM. One thing for sure Advani is a person who is very fit to the position of opposition leader, because he is very expert in opposing everything, so he will be a good opposit leader.

poor PM-IN-WAITING, five years from now he will still be hobbling to be the PM. Such is the state of BJP and their khakhichaddiwallas!

Five years are not that big in the history of the nation but in this five years we would see the real face of congress (the wicked face). I would like to tell the govern ment not to touch the sethu samudram project, we hind us may be down but not out. If you have the itch to biuld projects go and carry them out in Ita ly . I would also like to know from the government why are the great monuments closed and not open from public scrutiny (namely the TAJ MAHAL and the KUTUB MINAR)... why bcaose the truth behind these monuments will come out and the government does not wants them to be out... TAJ was a SHIV temple known as TEJO MAHAL and KUTUB MINAR was knwon as GARUD DWAJ which was gifted to Chandragupt Maurya (CHANAKYA) by his discple.. if you do not believe this, read the scriptures at the base of ASOKA PILLAR written in maghdi.

Redeeff,
Seems to be a highly educated rural man having access to internet!
Ofcourse, issues highlighted by Gothivrekar are irrelevant now. But whether rural man or urbanman, rich or middleclass or poor, every body has to work for his earning. If someone is rich today, he may become a pauper in no time. Money does'nt stay at one place for long time. It is your misconception that rich people do not work.
