Musician, whatever you are saying is just a music to our ears. The point is all problems start with the way fellow beings are treated. You cannot ask dalits to remain as dalits just because dalits are branch of hinduism. Your imagery is good but it lacks substance. Hinduism preaches inequality and that is not good. If I do not want to remain in dalit caste what is your problem ?

Janmatah shoodrah : Everybody is a shoodra by birth - says Adi Sankara - Only the qualities which one imbibe and inculcate according to his action result in his qualifying for a certain position but not his birth status. Religion is not an easy thing to understand - only enlightened people can know the deep truths in it. The geeta says only one among so many thousand people can know the truth - meaning only 1% can know the truth and they know what truth is (many people fall under remaining 99% who always argue and do not want to know the truth)

Who is adi shankara and wht is his qualifications ? Can the son of a brahmin can be a dalit at social level? Or can the son of dalit be a brahmin in society as we peceive today ? Can you tell me what is that truth you are referring to ? To me, a religion or system must address the core issues like pain and sufferings living beings and also it must teach us how to accept pain and move a head with more strength and dedication. I didnt had any exposure to such concepts when I was a dalit, but after knowing Christianity, I feel I have done a good hing in my life. Now I am confident and can talk to anyone. I believe in values and virtues preached in bible. Things are not the same for me as compared to my past. I knw the difference now.

Very good. You fall under the ignorant category my dear brother. Know that Whatever has already been told in hinduism has been repeated in Bible and quran - in a diluted tone. There is no new disclosure and in future also cannot be. I told you only enlightened people can know the truth. Ramakrishna paramahamsa practised all religions and he saw the same truth. He had the darshan of krishna, jesus and mohammad. When you praise one thing and critise another thing - how can it be - only false reasoning because in both cases truth is the same. Your points seem to be born out of ignorance. Try to know the truth.

ELECTION 2009
by Prashant Mardolkar on May 13, 2009 02:23 PM  | Hide replies

Cong and allies = 212
BJP and allies = 162
Others = 169.

Why BJP and ALLIES seats will be 162.
In BJP ( alone) stronghold states like Rajastan(21/25) MP (25/29) Karnataka (18/28) chattisgad (10/11)Gujarat ( 14126) Delhi ( 1/7). BJP won 89 out of 126 seats in last election. This time it will gain 4 seats in Gujarat and 1 seat in Delhi, but will loose 9 seats in Rajastan . in other states no improvement is possible, in fact it may loose some in Karnataka. Net loss of 4 seats.

In states where BJP is contesting with allies, Maha (25/48) Bihar (11/40) Punjab (11/13)Assam(4/14) Jharkhand (1/14) UP ( 13/80). BJP won 65 out of 209 seats in last election. This time it will gain in Bihar ( 17) Jharkhand(4). But will loose Maha( 7) Punjab (5) UP (3). Net gain of 6 seats.

So in this two sections BJP had won 154 out of 335 seats in 2004 which was a watershed election for it . Its India was Shining than, but in this issue less election, where they are facing ant incumbency in most of these states they hope to gain 156 out of 335.

In rest of 208 seats BJP won 31 seats but in Orisa(18/21) it will loose 11 seats to BJD. So sum total of this section will be 20 seats. Out of 208.

Hence 176 out of 543 is the maximum that BJP and all its allies can hope for, but my prediction is 162 seats.

Dalit - Is it a religion or way of life ?
by Mike on May 13, 2009 02:11 PM  | Hide replies

Dalit is not religion, so no question of conversions:

Thanks so much for the comments I received here. Some have really abused me for whatever reasons people think I am saying is wrong and some have agreed to my views. I take it constructively. Many people here have repeatedly said that conversion is not the solution for the problems of dalits. Some said why I renounced dalit or hindu religion and joined Christianity. First of all Dalit do not have any religion and therefore no question of conversion arises. They too have right to have a religion and one shouldn't get offended by it. People say, educating dalits is the only solution and I agree to this point. My education has led me to choose the faith I want to practice and I joined Christianity as my way of life. Religion is purely personal matter and personal choice. People seems to be giving just suggestions, unfortunately solving the plight of dalits takes long time. They can be given edcucation, money but their social taboo wont go away easily. It needs decades and decades to forget the bitter past. I wish these people produce working models and mechanisms and solutions to uplift the status of dalits in due course of time.

What is conversion and what is being converted. Does the so called converted invidivual develops extra hands or legs. He is the same individual. Each individual has to remember always the truth - A tree is a tree - the trunk is the base, the branches and leaves are its children and grand children. If the branches and leaves say that we are great, then no body can comment on such ignorant statement. The trunk is the mother and it always has its value. The earth from which the trunk emerges is the final base. So as enlightened people have said : the terms referred above are inferred as follows : the earth is god, hinduism is the trunk, the branches and leaves are subsequent religions : final conclusion all emerge from one thing : if branches and leaves start dictating then one can know the result : whether it is true or not.

Hinduism is the mother of all religions - Christianity is only 2000 years old. Islam is only 1500 years old. Hinduism is lakhs of years old though scientific evidence places it somewhere around 7000 to 8000 years back. Whatver has already been told in hinduism has been subsequently repeated in a diluted voice to suit the environments and people of such times. Jesus, Mohammed or any other prophet or messenger had worshipped and mentioned about almighty only. All true religious and spiritual leaders are messengers of god and when there is a need to establish dharma samsthapana itself, god incarnates as Rama , Krishna (the incarnations )and in other times, when necessity arises, it is only the messengers who appear.

Being a dalit is really difficult
by Mike on May 13, 2009 02:10 PM  | Hide replies

I knw wht it means to be a dalit:

I know the struggle of living in a dalit community. I was a dalit before embracing Christianity. I knw the pain of dalits. Exploitation and deprivation from basic rights has made life miserable. No education, no money, no job and no place to live. Everywhere dalits are banned. They cannot move freely in society. They are mocked and people spit on them. No one wants friendship wit them. They are branded untouchables. Education and jobs are denied. Dalits are not allowed to have friendship with other students and people. Dalits cannot enter temples. They cant dine with higher class and cant eat in plates in hotels.

Think yourself being a dalit and imagine how the society is treating you. You wont understand the pain unless you are a dalit. Think of dalits and help them to come up. Dont abuse them. It is easy to criticize dalits in power but since they are denied education and jobs for many centuries they must be given special concessions in order that they too come on par with majority. Competition of unequals is meaningless. Now my life is better. I hope other dalits also see the light and change their social stigma for their better future tmrw.

Someone in this forum asked me what difference it has made after joining Christianity. To be frank it has made lot of difference in terms of lifting my social problems that comes with being a dalit. People around me treat well and also show lot of love and respect. They are always ready to help and also counsel in difficulties. Christianity is not all about money and fooling as many people here complain. I was not converted by anyone. I approached people and gathered information and finally made a conscious decision of joining Christianity. I am more happy than before. I made this decision thinking of my futiure generations and also to come into mainstay in society. Christianity has given me strength to live a dignified and wonderful life. What more do I need ?

My freind chistianity has got nothing to do with your so called "upliftment of social problems".

You are a dalit till you feel it and want to enjoy the benefits attached with it for yourself and for all your children for all time to call.

If backward class people are facing social stigma today its only due to policies of successive govts. which in name of social upliftment have alienated more by making people of upper category feel that dalits are taking away all there due share.

The good way of social upliftment would had been, had it been on criteria of economic status and meritocracy. That would had been an inclusive policy applicable to all and obviously dalits would had benefitted the most. Reservation and policies based on caste, creed and religion are divisive policies
