Ledt in West Bengal
by Haramohan Ray on May 12, 2009 01:07 PM  | Hide replies

Thw lwft has been returning to power in West Bengal because of their commitment to the sharecroppers and bargadars. However, after achieving some success in the agricultural sector, it is natural to move on to industries. With 98% land in Bengal being agricultural land, no government can earmark only the non-agricultural land for industries. The Trinamool, in spite of khowing this too well, has successfully misled the people of the state for some time. Question is - how far will they succeed.

I don't think 16th May will tell us the real story. We will know only what the LF cadres have allowed to happen in most of the rural constituencies.
Just allow the elections to be held under strict army rule in all booths and then you will see the actual reflection of people's mind. Until then, it will be the cadre-raj.

Mr Indian, do you remember 2001? In that year, assembly election was held strictly under the surveillance of the central forces, and Mamata Banerjee publicly said that she was sure of victory because the election was held freely and fairly. And, do you remember the results? The Left came back to power with igger margin than in 1996!

west bengal......a legacy
by hakim khan on May 12, 2009 01:07 PM  | Hide replies

the communists got chance riding on the wave of Janata wave in 1977 after people in all of north and east part of India were angry with congress post-emergency rule.that time communists fought 6th Lok sabha having alliance with janata party in which Jan Sangh was also a part.the communists were a weak bunch of bidi-smokers,marginal farm workers and hindu `refugees` of erstwhile east pakistan.the congress led by Indira gandhi was ruling party and a popular Sidharth Shankar Ray was very confident CM of congress ruled Bengal had good clout in Delhi and opposition in bengal was communists and other left brand parties who never had any chance of capturing power in WB. But unfortunately after 6TH Loksabha election riding on the wave of anti-congress mood and folly of Prafulla Sen the so- called marxists came to power in 1977 and since the story of rigging, intimidating voters, selective deleting of names of hindi-speaking voters from the list and use of force in rural bengal by its cadres made them win election after election and saying themselve as friends of poor and labours and protectors of muslims. All these years since 1977 the communists found the main opposition congress as dull and spent force in bengal and people were left with no option but to caste their votes for the communists though they did`nt approve their policies, and politics. The main opposition in bengal as congress had become like B team of communists and role of opposion should be taken over by BJP in WB.

Mr Banerjee,
Everyone knows the following:
1) West Bengal successfully implemented the land reform policy, the only state in India to do so, as certified by the World Bank
2) West Bengal successfully implemented the 3-tier Panchayati system in India, the first state of India to do so, again as certified by the world bank
These two measures for ever changed the rural agrarian economy of the state. In 1977, less than 60% of the land was agricultural, whereas in 2009, it now stands at 98%! This speaks of the good side of these two measures, where the people of the village can manag their affairs and own their land!
But, perhaps, you'll never understand the full implications of these measures!

They will repeat for the umpteenth time "Land Reforms". And then they will say "Centre didn't provide money or support". We've heard it all n times.
They have failed in education sector, health sector, infrastructure, industry, human resource development, governance, power, transport, sports, youth development, PWD so on and so forth.
In agriculture there have been a slight improvement but it is because of the improvement in general awareness of the people.

Farming in West Bengal

Farming in West Bengal may not be alucrative occupation any longer, and it was a suicidal move to drive out the Tatas from Singur.

Then your great Buddhababu should have given them an alternate site, maybe non agricultural land in Purulia. Tata has already bid goodbye to Bengal, Buddhababu doesnt have any alternative industry in mind. The commies have taken Bengal back by 50 years compared to rest of India.

Dear Mr. Mitra,
I have travelled in remotest of places in WB for work & pleasure. I know the abysmal condition people live in some zones of Purulia, 24 Pgs (S). Tea Garden workers have starved to death.
If you ask me I have not seen any positive signs of any significant growth in the living conditions of rural people expected from a Govt, who are in power for 32 years. In the intial stages land reform was the only and major contribution of the Left front, which was definitely a sucess. But slowly and slowly the Panchyat Pradhans. Local MLA's & M.P's have become as autocratic as the erstwhile zamindars.
It is not that I support the freak in the oposition, but face the facts and do not get carried away singing the praises of the left Front

Communists have done a mistake

Why did they try to bring industrial development into Bengal? they should have forever kept the people poor and backward and should have been whipping up passions. Then people will vote for them. This is what Mamta did with Singur and Nadigram and now she is succeding.

Huge spending in West Bengal
by abboral boral on May 12, 2009 12:35 PM

Spending of money is vital in this recession market .It is good to ses heavy spending happened in this recession market .I am not saying that there should be election everytime but my point is who ever comes to power must spend on
1.Rural Infra --30% of total allocation on infra
2. Roads and housing 40% of total budget

3.Rural health--10% of total health budget

4. SMEs in rural India --loan by Banks at 2 % interest

High spending on above sector only will create demands and demands will create more supply ,services .I can say this election spending at least created demands for Ad agencies, paper ,consumer durables ,telephone, auto ,steel ,increasing earning of rural populations
