Three British TV Channel-4 journalists, Nick Paton-Walsh, the channel's Asian correspondent, producer Bessie Du and cameraman Matt Jasper, who were covering the Sri Lanka conflict in Trincomalee have been arrested and are being taken to Colombo, AP reported. Channel-4's first independently filmed recent exposure coverage of the conditions of the Tamil refugees who fled the war and being in the internment camps had irked Colombo. The blatant rights violations of the Sri Lanka state had disturbed the world at large for the cavaliar fashion the state was behaving towards the civilians.
Four UN Human Rights Council experts on right to health, food, water, and sanitation, in a statement issued Friday, said that "[t]here is good reason to believe that thousands of civilians have been killed in the past three months alone, and yet the Sri Lankan Government has yet to account for the casualties, or to provide access to the war zone for journalists and humanitarian monitors of any type," and that "[s]hipments of food and medicine to the "no fire zone" have been grossly insufficient over the past month and the Government has reportedly delayed or denied timely shipment of life saving medicines as well as to chlorine tablets," and urged the U.N. to establish a commision toaddress the critical human rights situation, and demand full respect to human rights.
Indiscriminate barrage of shelling by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) on the 'safety zone' starting from Saturday night to Sunday morning slaughtered more than 2,000 civilians including large number of women and children, medical sources in Vanni said quoting the injured who managed to reach the makeshift hospital. Dead bodies are scattered everywhere and 814 wounded managed to reach the makeshift hospital up to 9:25 a.m., doctors said. Every kind of lethal weapon such as the internationally banned cluster shells and shells fired from Multi Barrel Rocket Launchers and Cannons were used turning the so-called safety zone into a killing field. The SLA usually chooses weekends for its massacres to minimise international attention.

Rama, can you please stop your interference. It hurts the seriousness of the matter.
I'm not a supporter of MMS and used to think Jayalalitha is a sensible person. But on the issue of Sri Lanka, MMS is right. Talking of sending army to create Eelam is outright non-sensical bordering on comedy. If India were a super power, I wonder what these morons will demand.

You are correct. Sri Lanka is a sovereign nation. India cannot interfere. India can send their tax money to Sri Lanka. India can send arms and ammunition. Indian can train their military. Indian can send their army medical team to treat their wounded soldiers. India can assist their army for killing 7000 civilians and wounding more than 10000. The army can be sent to Lanka in the name of IPKF only to rape and kill with the friendly sri lankan army.
But cannot send army to create Eelam outright. Bangladesh was created because Pakistan is not powerful like Sri Lanka. And here in Sri Lanka only third rate citizens only are killed.
So your argument is meaningful and has opened our eyes. Mahesh, You are the reincarnation of LORD BUDDHA. So far I was thinking, it was Rajapakse.
More than 2000 people killed and 10,000 people wounded, srilankan army throwing bomb in safe zone place, but this news not coming in our NORTH INDIANS Medias, WHY??????????????
It's shows their true color, they always talked about LTTE and thier leader, but not a single time they will not show a true news against srilankan govt. This news shows in international TVs and condempt by Human rights, but in india not shows, because of election.

Obviously Sri Lankan army has upper hand now. Why don't you blame LTTE for not surrendering to save Tamil people.

Hope you understand, why srilankan govt doing.
Pl see todays UN news, they gave strong message to srilanka, but they don't bother about this.
