West Bengal occupies only 2.7% of the India's land area, though it supports over 7.8% of Indian population, and is the most densely populated state in India.
Bengal's economy suffered worstly at when Congress-British-MuslimLeague jointly divided our country.
Still look at the result:
West Bengal has the third largest economy (2003–2004) in India, with a net state domestic product of US$ 21.5 billion.[34] During 2001–2002, the state's average SDP was more than 7.8% — outperforming the National GDP Growth.[35] The state has promoted foreign direct investment, which has mostly come in the software and electronics fields;[34] Kolkata is becoming a major hub for the Information technology (IT) industry. Owing to the boom in Kolkata's and the overall state's economy, West Bengal is now the third fastest growing economy in the country.[36] However, the rapid industrialisation process has given rise to debate over land acquisition for industry in this agrarian state.[37] NASSCOM–Gartner ranks West Bengal power infrastructure the best in the country.[38] West Bengals state domestic product (SDP) grew in 2004 with 12.7 % and in 2005 with 11.0 % .[39]

The above statement by Karat , if it becomes a reality, just shows, how immature and irresponsible the india voters. First of all, we should understand our voters, who are literate, illitarate, urban, rural, voters who vote for money/liquor etc... I strongly belive that majority of the voters mainly from villages, talukas, slums in cities, etc (look at the media, which covers these) vote for the candidate who gives them money/liquor. In this situation, we can never expect that a strong government can be formed which can make India stronger.
