Some people think that Tamilians of India went and settled in Sri Lanka. Even I used to think like that. That is wrong.
From time memorial, for several hundreds of years, much before the Europeans plundered and looted Sri Lanka, the island of Sri Lanka had three kingdoms - one Tamil kingdom and two Sinhala kingdoms.
So, Sri Lankan Tamils are well within their reight to demand a separate country for themselves, especially because the Sri Lankan government officially discriminates against them.
However, who should India or Indian Tamils interfere with Sri Lanka.
Indians, including Indian Tamils, should keep out of Sri Lanka.

We were 460 riyasats which were brought under one flag during 1947 ( Freemom at Midnight by Lapiere Dominee). Country once brought under one flag for nationality should remain as united and we are no body to speak in favour or against Lankan Tamils. Keep away from FIRE.

Raj Mohan, don't get too emotional by comparing Sri Lankan issue with Bangladesh. Splitting Pakistan was of strategic importance to us then. Well, it is a different matter that it has misfired, but at that time it was thought that a bifurcated Pakistan was in our interest. In retrospection, it is wrong as we have to deal with two hostile nations instead of one! In Sri Lanka, we already have China trying to fish in troubled waters. If we do not extend support to Sri Lankan govt. nothing can stop them from moving closer to china for aid. Can we ask for a worse disaster than this? Only if you believe in India as one nation and the importance of her remaining so, you will have a clear perspective of the issue and will not look at it through sectarian 'Tamil' glasses.

Srilankan buddhist govt. is cunning. During Indo-pak, indo-china wars they stood with our enemy. Even now the local politicians are hatred towards us and liking chinese frenship..

Raj Mohan, thanks for your prompt response. To dilute China's role, we need to be at least seen as supporting Sri Lankan Govt. I do agree with you that the Buddhist Island nation has been very cunning. Exploiting India's security concerns, Jayawardene ensured that Rajiv sent the IPKF. Last time, they were speaking about US's interest in Trincomalee as a defence base and forced us into interfering; this time it is china! What I am basically unhapp about is devolution of power for the Tamil minority is one thing and support to a terrorist outfit is another. The call for saving innocent Tamils is a diabolical euphemism for protecting LTTE which has killed more number of Tamils than the Sri Lankan army itself. The maximum that we can do is accomodate SL Tamils in our refugee camps in Mandapam as long as we can and ask SL govt. to come to the negotiating table and offer a decent package for the suffering Tamils instead of extending support to a separate Tamil Eelam. If we justify separatism, so can Lashkar and other Jihadi groups in J&K and such sensitive areas.

And works there are hypocrites who cry for Palestines. But when it comes to Tamils who have blood relationship with Srilankan Tamils, we are called beggars, terrorists and what not.

Its just not opinion. India asked Israel to stop attacks on Palestine. India asked US to stop attacks on Iraq. It is now asking US not to attack N.Korea or Iran.
But why does not India ask Srilanka to stop attacks on Innocent Tamils. Forget they are Tamils, they are human being first.
Second if India just airs opinion theirs no trouble. But it is supplying arms and training to the Srilankan Army. How about that.

By the way unlike Pakistan we are not asking for Kashmir's accession with Pakistan. We are asking for basic human rights. How would you behave when you were owning a land for 100-500 odd years and someone grabbing it from you.
How about Hindus saying that Muslims are migrants and let them go back to Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran and Iraq. Does that make sense.
