Congress should give enough space to young turks so that voice is heard not pressed in Party politics.Young faces should start taking stance not leave them selves on,ercy of petty affairs.

He will win big!!! LDF themselves have assured his victory in advance. Moreover, Muraleedharan is also constesting from TVM, making it a four-prong contest.

Media has reported that Congress men themselves protested Shashi Tharoor candidature by rallies, hoardings etc. in Trivandrum. If Muraleedharan is contesting, it will again affect UDF rather than LDF. So how do u expect Shashi Tharoor to win ?

Non-living gods !!! which god is a living thing ??
God is a living thing in the minds of people which means "The human mind is the originator that's giving life to any god, in some form or the other according to individual's mental assumptions".

Congress is bankrupt in leaders
by Amit Sen on Mar 20, 2009 08:29 AM

Congress is badly in need of a candidate of stature in Trivandrum. And this ambitious upstarat has seized the opportunity. All his bureaucratic sheen cannot get votes given the bickerings in congress in the district over his selectin. Luminaries have been sent to Lok Sabha by Trivandrumites, but only under Left banner.

People like Shashi tharoor should be there in Parliament than the goonda like un-eduacated politicians. He will most probably India's next external affairs Minister in Manmohan singh ministry. All the best for Tharoor.

Winning and losing is a part of democratic process. He contested for a coveted post at international level and lost. So what? What is digraceful in it? People like you are a disgrace to our democracy. Is Tharoor more bad than convicted criminals and goondas, established cheaters?

If shashi wins and UPA comes to power, then he is a sure bet to become a minister..most probably in external affairs.
But what it will bring to Trivandrum, has to be seen.
Trivandrum is probably the most neglected capital city of a state in India.

Shashi is not a native of trivandrum, which might not necessarily be a disadvantage as TVM had MPs before who came from outside.
But his support among local congressmen needs to be seen.

The CPI candidate is also not assured f a victory in the backdrop of the cpim-cpi relations today.

If you put in a strong BJP candidate into the mix ( provided the RSS in Trivandrum comes out in support), then we would have a tight election this time in Trivandrum.

Trivandrum is probably the most neglected capital city of a state in India. How can you say this?.The most castiest and the slefish people of Kerla are from Trivandrum.
Highly corrupt people work in the offices of Trivandrum.Even a sweeper wants dowry of 15 lakhs In trivandrum city.Since the capital is in Trivandrum the people of Trivandrum, first purchase a government job by bribing in some where in northern districts and then, they will get transfer to thier native place by again bribing.

Is corruption only in trivandrum? my friend?

Isn't it a phenomenon everywhere?

I won't disagree with you that people of trivandrum are selfish and narrow-minded.
But what does it have to do with the neglect of the city?

Do you mean to say trivandrum deserves it?

Sashi Tharoor was a looser- it was a big strategic mistake for Govt of India to support his candidature as UN chief.

India lost international prestige because of that.

Very presence of Tharoor shows Congi is unable to learn from past mistakes.

infact we should welcome this step since such steps would open up the entry of more qualified peoples in our Political system thereby enriching the qualitity of elected representatives, in fact his candidature for UN-Cheif position was very good moove & he reached very close to victory, i think his defeat in final election reflects thatndidates .at he deserved the position but due to strong political lobbying for korean candidate resulted in his victory.so let us all start supporting all deserving candidates largely in the interest of our nation instead of illeterate & criminal politician.his success would definately motivate many more very good candidates to join & clean our political system.

Trivandrum did not deserve to be capital of Kerala in the first place! Consider whatever development it has got as a gift from people of rest of Kerala.

They can't even tolerate location of High Court of Kerala at EKM, and demand a separate Bench at TVM. What about people from Kasaragod and Kannur who have to travel all the way to TVM to get their work done from the Govt.

It is hightime, EKM is declared the capital of Kerala, which is the biggest city, and conveniently located for all.

It is upto the government to make sure that people don't have to come to Trivandrum for every little thing.

In these days of IT, physically going to some place to get things done does not make sense.

Anyways, Trivandrum became the capital by virtue of its position in the kingdom of travancore.
Moving it somewhere else is not practical anymore.

But i shudder to think what would have happened if TVM was not the capital in the first place !!!
Maybe it would have been given to tamil nadu :)

the local bigots in cochin prevented the upgrading of trivandrum's airport for 40 years. now they're preventing the creation of vizhinjam container port. why? vallarpadam container port is a great source of revenue for them by dredging year after year. vallarpadam should never have got off the ground had it not been for negative tactics by congress people. after the creation of kerala, all state investment has gone to malabar and cochin. these envious people have tried to prevent any central investment from coming into trivandrum as well. cochin has nothing going for it: there has been a huge fuss about jobs being created by the Smart City, which is a hoax created by a dubious dubai company. real estate prices have shot up in this horrible mosquito-infested town because of smart city and the container port. we will soon see all these prices coming crashing down.

The airport in trivandrum which is called "international" is more of a glorified bus-stand.
Nothing has been done to expand it further.
The LDF government goofed up with the vizhinjam project.
Surely it is a threat to cochin's status as the premier port city of kerala.
But there are other lobbies like the singapore lobby and also other ports which are threatened by it.

The roads in trivandrum are narrow and no new flyovers have been built. One new flyover which they built is in "suspended animation" as they have to decide where to link it to.

The only thing in trivanrum that is new is the legislative assembly and technopark.

All others have been built by the king and the british

The successive LDF/UDF Govts. are to be blamed for the poor state of TVM airport and not anybody else. When TVM became an international airport, there was no Nedumbassery or Kozhikode. Then what prevented its timely development?

Vizhinjam port initially got delayed because Central govt did not want to give contract to Chinese companies on security grounds. But this was not received well with the LDF who are hell-bent upon helping their Chinese comrades!

The fact is that, even now, the State Govt has not done anything positive to complete the project.

The other allegations regarding Vallarpadam and lack of central investment in South Kerala etc. appear to be baseless, unless substantiated with reliable data.

Shashi Tharoor
by Anurag Dave on Mar 20, 2009 04:53 AM  | Hide replies

I see time and again that political parties across India nominate people as candidates for seats in constituencies where they have hardly spent any time. I think politicians have thoroughly abused the constitutional right to stand for electoral office anywhere in India. I say so because as member of parliament one is to represent the voice of the people from that area. I do believe that Shashi Tharoor and people like him should join politics so that their expertise can be beneficial to the country. Having said that, is it not unfair to people of a certain constituency, if their candidate has never even lived there for a short time ? Correct me fellow countrymen if I am wrong, but hasn't Shashi actually spent his school life in Mumabi, college in Delhi and U.S. and then worked in the UN ? Or for that matter, why is Arun Jaitley a Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat, Dr.Manmohan Singh from Assam, and Jayaprada MP from UP ? But of course, the fault primarily lies with us, the electorate, because we eventually elect them. But I also find it funny that he was in the race to become the secretary general of the U.N.,while the Congress openly declares that Rahul Gandhi would be a candidate for PM's chair, if not now, then later.

Whether he has spent time in the particular region or not, may not be really a problem. Often, new people bring refreshing ideas and prove to be good managers/ leaders (e.g., corporate sector). If he is a good human being, he will learn the factors that need to be taken care of in the development of his constituency within 6 months. In such case, he would be definitely better than a MP such as Navjyot Singh Sidhu, who spends his time in shooting for Laughter Challenge and managing his business OR a Minister like Sharad Pawar (Agri Ministry) who is busy in BCCI, while farmers are commiting suicides.
