India doesn't need a politician like Mayawati
by Rohan Ranade on Apr 22, 2009 11:48 AM

The only person who has benefitted from Mayawati's politics, is Mayawati herself. India is slowly coming out of the old mindset of 'cast based society' and I think, it is the politicians like Mayawati who drag us back to the dark ages of caste system. Throw out people like Mayawati and India will be a much better place. The only thing Mayawati understand is 'power politics' and not the 'welafre politics'.

Has so far done nothing for the oppressed class, except giving false pride to some. He forefathers may be Dalit but she is not, she istead is a big bully & corrupt politician who belives in dividing the society into fragments same as laLOO, MullahYam, vilasiram do.

While Obama benefited from a first-class education, Mayavati grew up in a small town with eight brothers and sisters and attended poor government schools. Obama enjoyed the backing of a long-established party, while the BSP, has been built up largely by Mayawati herself, though now the party is in the process of being hijacked by the upper caste and the rich. Unlike Obama, Mayawati has built her power on demagogic class warfare. She is a highly divisive national leader - an anti-Obama. She is in possession of suspiciously ostentatious fortune but has limited accomplishments on behalf of the socially oppressed whose cause she champions. She is admired more for her jewels than for her limited accomplishments on behalf of the dalits. She is dogged by corruption charges.

Mayavati is now aspiring for the country's top job after the parliamentary elections get over in May. Chances of her party actually winning a majority of the seats in parliament are nebulous, but her followers hope she'll emerge as kingmaker in the negotiations, with enough clout to grab the top job herself. Her possible bagging the prime minister-ship, if it comes, may be seen as a great leap forward for country’s oppressed - but, ironically, will end up bolstering the unsavoury caste system that has kept them in chains. Some people believe that either Meira Kumar or Ram Vilas Paswan would be a better choice as first Dalit prime minister of India.

Mayawati is not Obama.. but much more than Obama..
by vikram on Apr 22, 2009 11:03 AM

People who are writing this article, and bolggers commenting positive on this are the true casteist people in the world.

First of all.. please understand that Mayawati has not invented Caste system in India. Caste system has been existing sinces ages. Congress and BJP has always used this caste equation to be in power.

Now fortunately Mayawati is trying to unite the people from all caste who have been kept divided by Coongress and BJP.

What corruption charges are you guys talking about. there are no charges but only one charge against her which still has not been proved in the court.

Dont you guys see corrupt politicians in congress and BJP. Sonia says she does not possess a car.. and has assets worth only 1 crore. Can anybody believe this. these people have mastered the art of hiding black money.

We dont believe in what a magazine from US writes about. Forget about that author.. even people in India who are blogging here also unware of the problems faced in rural india. Go talk to the people from these villages and especially from UP.

First time in their lives they are seeing hope in life in just a short span of 1 years rule by Mayawati in UP.

We have to compliment the writer that they have brought out at least one fact that she is rising by dividing people on basis of caste and creed.

Another notable thing is that her own community has hardly benefited under her rule. If at all anybody has benefited it is a select group of her cronies
