by siva theraviaraj on Apr 15, 2009 11:48 PM

Commentary like vicious grip of reddys and kammas speaks itself of the bias he has and all the guys are fighting over such a divisive article.

Politicians regardless of caste show the same hunger to meet their selfish needs;so no need to fight among ourselves for such crowd.

The % of reddys and kammas in AP is less than 10 but
by jet on Apr 15, 2009 11:16 PM  | Hide replies

The % of Reddys and Kammas in AP is less than 10 but see out of the 14 CMs, 11 are from these castes. A BC never became a CM and only one dalit was the CM for some time and was insulted publicly by the then PM Rajeev. The BC's and SC/ST's form 70% of the population but pity is they never have the power. It is time these people get the power to rule.Dont say I am thinking in caste lines, All these years Reddy's and Kammas have neen thinking in caste lines only and now is the time for the majority population to give tit for tat.

ther is no CM from BC's who are more than 60% of population. that it self is a social injustice. All sections of the society should get the power not few sections.

but is that a problem in the system, or just that all BC's traditionally like Congress and TDP? Why blame the system when people are illiterate?

India have more than 60% of population who are poor(close to poverty line or less). We have 80% of population who passed did not pass 10th grade. More than 90% of our representatives are above poverty line and passed 10thgrade.

so the problem is not in caste. Problem is in not having 100% literacy. Problem is not improving the conditions of people. Problem is the influence of money in elections. Lets fight these; we will have social justice and all caste will have equal opportunity in ruling the state or country. You may also notice that inter caste marriages are more common in rich and higher middles class than other goups. Caste barriers will disappear one generation after the 100% literecy and after bringing people out of poverty.

WILL ANYONE STOP CONVERSION
by Lopesh S on Apr 15, 2009 11:16 PM  | Hide replies

After Kerala TN Orissa missionaries aggressive in AP and Karnataka
Alarming 5 fold increase in Kandhamal Christian population from six per cent in 1971 to 27 per cent in 2001 ,It began with the arrival of Christian missionaries in the area who found the remote region very conducive to conduct prosetylization amongst the poor tribals. The conversions continued unhindered until the arrival of Swami Laxmanananda who put strenuous efforts to stop conversions and help reconversion to Hinduism as well. If not for his effort Kandhamal would have been another Nagaland in the making where the separatist movement has wrecked havoc in the state.
The aggressive Christian proselytization in Orissa today pitched previously peaceful tribals into warring camps of Christians and non-Christian. This has has vitiated the peace that has existed with various communities for millenia.
Why Orissa
Orissa has been specially targeted because of a huge tribal population. This allows the missionaries to work from the scrutiny of the media and carry our their nefarious activities.
In Kandhamal district, for instance, the Christian population has increased from six per cent in 1971 to 27 per cent in 2001, despite a law enacted by the Orissa Legislature in 1967 to prevent conversion by allurement, coercion, bribery and cheating.

Vote
Time to act .... Please vote for the right
by Vote on Apr 15, 2009 10:48 PM

We have politicians who create regional and religious hatred, politicians who oppose projects like Tata Nano for political gains.

We can change our political system by voting for the right person and persuading/educating people around you to vote for the right person.

Loksatta led by Jayaprakash Narayan(Former IAS)is the only party which said it will not use
1) Money
2) Liquor
3) Religious hatred
4) Regional hatred to win in elections.

It is the only party which said it will not go for strikes to protest against government polocies but will protest in a democratic way.

For a country like India which has a 14% power deficiency importing nuclear technology for power generation is very important. Loksatta is the only party which was not part of the UPA (ruling coilation) which supported the Nuclear deal and urged other parties to support the deal which is very essential for our country.

When govt increased fuel prices because of the increased prices in gulf countries all oppositon parties did unfruitful works like using bullock carts to goto assembly. But loksatta is the only party which said we should reduce our dependency on oil (petrol) we should start using unconventional resources and fuel efficient technologies.

It is the only party which talks about providing good education and health facilities, infrastructure.

Let us all contribute by voting for the right person and campaign for parties like Loksatta which have great principles

Brahmins
by SaneIndian on Apr 15, 2009 10:07 PM  | Hide replies

Not one Brahmin was given ticket for Assembly or Loksabha by any of these Congress, TDP or Chiru party.

Yet Brahmins go and vote for all these casteist and communal parties.

Brahmins have no future in South India. No wonder many Brahmins are running away from South to Mumbai and other North Indian states.

Raja Yadav,

Brahmins are not coward or selfish. If you have any knowledge of History.. Read about Parshuram, Guru Drona, Chankya, Guru Ramdas and many mores. Brahmins have given up everything for the best of their Nation. Chankya could have grabed the power but he made Chandragupta a king. Brahmins prefered this life in past time. Time is changing, Brahmins are coming back. Mayawati has understood the power of knowledge and power of Brahmins. Without the help of Brahmins this country cannot run. So think before commenting.

I have to agree with SaneIndian's comment but I don't think moving to another state of country is the answer. It is interesting that all castes complain how Brahmins pushed them to the lower end of the totem pole even when it is very obvious that Brahmins have no political power.

Yes,
Brahmins have no future in south india. They are totally sidelined by other castes purely on the basis that they were discriminated against during history.
Come to think of it, we were under british rule for 300 yrs, before that mughal rule for 400 yrs, and buddhist rule before that, so it does not really make sense to blame brahmins for lifes' all problems

Myth of caste-based voting
by UsualSuspect on Apr 15, 2009 10:05 PM  | Hide replies

Very few people vote for a candidate on caste basis. If Reddys and Kammas are less than 5% each of the population of AP (according to a recent report) then one can easily see that they can't win elections just on the basis of caste.

Yes, caste is definitely a factor when it comes to allocation of seats during elections because then it becomes a matter of fair representation of people of various castes.

Caste-based voting is a myth whereas caste-based seat allocation is a reality !

These castes are traditionally rich. With their wealth they have been taking the power. Parties give seats to persons who can spend money in elections. As they have the power since beginning, their community earned lot of wealth and they are able to use that wealth in election after election. In North states like UP, Bihar after independence upper caste people ruled, but slowly leaders like Lalu, Mulayam, Mayawati, Pashwan emerged from BC,SC's and now the majority people call the shots in those states. Similar thing should happen in south states like AP and TN where couple of castes who just form below 10% of the population rule the remaining 90% and due to this, the 10% is always rich and 90% is less developed in society.

The voters may not be dumb after all. Because they accept money from various candidates knowing fully well that they can only vote for one candidate.

Voters also feel that election time is the only time when they can get something. After elections, the politicians in power hardly care for the welfare of their constituents or the development of their constituencies because they need to fill their pockets first to prepare for future elections.

It has become a cycle that needs to be broken badly.

Caste based Polity....
by Sujeev Kommana on Apr 15, 2009 09:54 PM

Despite more than two centuries of British rule, and a post independence constitution that perpetuates contradictory western influences in India, it seems Indians, as also other South Asians, are naturally inclined toward their traditional caste based polity. Maybe it is time to stop mocking Indians for their inclinations, and rewrite the constitution of India to better reflect, and empower, traditional Indian practices.

You must VOTE for candidates from your CASTE only.
by New York on Apr 15, 2009 08:46 PM  | Hide replies

Since Hinduism is based on CASTE hierarchies, it intrinsically seeds HATRED in your Children(e.g. Varun Gandhi).
Hence,
* You must VOTE for candidates from your CASTE only.
* You must vote for your CASTE till 85% of all registered marriages in India are INTER-CASTE or INTER-FAITH.
* Only he can UNDERSTAND your culture and IMPROVE your socio-economic status.
* And do not worry if he is CORRUPT.
This is the only way to STOP dis-integration of India.
