This report is height of yellow journalism. The govt in Chattisgarh is in fact so farmer and poor friendly that, it is affecting other businesses.Highest purchase price of rice from farmers, then selling it at Rs 3 per kg to poor people.Round the clock electricity.Easy easy, damn easy loans! what else does a farmer needs.why are rediff publishing a sole event, that too after an year?four farmers everyday? chattisgarh is a small state, even a large state like maharashtra cant afford this rate.Shame on you rediff. You people must be sued!

I don't want to go to backward states like Chattisgarh !!! Stay happy where you are !!!
Since Rediff anyway has the journalistic reach to identify the problem, couldn't it also set up a fund (consisting of public contributions) for helping such farmers' families in distress?
I personally believe this is a very urgent necessity. Rediff anyway brings this unfolding tragedy into public consciousness, why not take the next logical step of trying to stop it?
Growing disparity between the sections of people, be it rich and poor, be it urban and rural, be it regional, is the Indian reality. The so called major political parties are copycats and follow each others economic policies. Chidambaram way of development comes with urbanisation and forces farmers to suicide. Be it Chattisgarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra etc. farmer suicides are a daytoday affair.
The only solution to this is a change in economic policy as advocated by nobel laurete economists like Paul Krugman. Only the Left parties especially CPIM has put forward a different economic policy following Krugman's suggestions.
Both Congress and BJP parties are making all hue and cry, all gudia, budia, sonia ben calls. These are irresponsible craps who should be stamped out of India (sent to afgan or pak). Biggest mass murderers, the congress and BJP should be wiped out from the Indian political scene. Murderer development hate monger chief ministers should be deported from India to make our country a better place.

WB is better off than many of the BJP, Congress ruled states. In 2006, WB is 4th in GDP where as Gujarat is 6th. In HDI, Gujarat though a rich state is performing badly, it slipped two places when Modi took over.

How many farmer suicides happened in WB and Kerala, How many happened in Gujarat? Where is Gujarat, WB in GDP, SDP? Where is Kerala, Gujarat in HDI, SDI, Hunger Index, Investment Climate?
Stop telling nonsense if you are illiterate. Go read up and come.

Farmers in WB dont even have money to purchase a rope to hang, and abt kerala, where are the farmers? you commies are not letting them even cultivate, all gone to gulf, or to here in chattisgarh, they all work here in our steelplants, and we are proud of them being here, except you commies!
What is needed is some investments in Farming science and new and affordable farming techniques Farmers instead of committing suicide should come up with a plan to overcome conditions of drought If interlinking of rivers will help that should also be pursued. New irrigation techniques and crop rotations should be done. Commiting suicide doesnt solve any problem
This is really sad. Prayers can only help to a certain extent. I expect that the farmers brother will not give it up. If the farmer has to pay 166K rupees and if the brother is ready to pay it up its good. The bank should get back to them showing neat calculations as to why the amount is inflated to 278K But on another note, Why commit suicide.? Suicide not only destroys the farmer but his family also. Creates a big stain for that family. As such our rural mindset still has to change. Why did the guys parents cancel the marriage because the girls father owed the bank?
I hail from Durg district and am a farmer too, and i can say that this report is all crap. The farmers are getting the highest rate for their rice than ever here at chattisgarh, and poor people can purchase rice at Rs 3 per kg.how much money did the congress offered you people to publish this report, at the time of National election, two years after the incident!shame on you rediff, am not a BJP supporter, but the only thing which BJP is doing good in the state is, helping the poor.Kindly look after the suicide rates at Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh! shame on you rediff, shame! i will definitely write the state govt to look in this report and sue you peopple if possible! This is yellow journalism!

its truth no one can deny farmer are dying in PUnjab , Utrrakand, Bihar, orrisa, west begal , maharashtra , everywhere

My dear friend, the farmers are dying, i agree, but not here in Chattisgarh, believe me.In fact the govt is so farmer friendly and poor friendly, that other business are suffering.Rs 3 rice has reduced the expenses of poors to a considerable extent, and hence they are not working as regularly as earlier, creating labour problem.Rice purchase price from farmers are highest in India.Electricity is cheap and available round the clock, as we are have surplus power. Now tell me, what else! This article would have been more apt for Maharashtra or AP!
This is the plight of the farmers of the country which says her religin is FARING. JAI JAWAN, JAI KISAN has remained at the back of trucks only. What INDIA eats is grown by our famers. We owe moral responsibility to defend them. If we cannot do even this, then we are eating them with the grains grown by them in their fields. It is a shameful story of Indian farmers on whose behalf India is talking at WTO forums to open agriculture for the world.
