Left front in West Bengal
by DR.PRABIR DUTTA on May 18, 2006 11:28 PM

Not CPM but the capacity to form left front is an alternative is a message yet to be seen at national level.Caste exploitation of elite in India will continue if there were no any solution. The problem can not be solved by only reservation for OBC in higher education.
So,left front in WestBengal is yet to play its role in caste affairs.

I sincerely feel that reporters with limited understanding like Mr Sumit should be given a tour of the entire country before they start commenting

Abhi
CPM

I really appreciate the article and it has clearly stated the mystery behind CPM staying in power for the 7th time in a row.

Grassroot organization, lack of a proper opposition (for which CPM is responsible to a certain extent as it provides an unhealthy political atmosphere), fight within the opposition and taking well care of its cadres. Being a CPM supporter provides security to the people of West Bengal as they can bypass lot of harassment. But, emergence of "Budhhadeb" as the frontman of CPM and his pro-industry initiatives was also a big factor in this election.

It would have been tough for CPM if the opposition was united. It was found after the elections that the opposition parties had got 50% of the votes in the state but it was not reflected in the number of seats that they got.

The Writing on the Wall
by ANIRUDDHA DUTTA on May 13, 2006 03:49 PM

In a democracy we all shout about a strong opposition which can guide the rulling party to be on the right track. But we also should know that when people are voting during assembly elections in West Bengal then the opposition must have the following -
(A) A PROJECTED C.M. who should be politically matured, honest, transparent, should have a vision for the future which sinks with the pulse of the masses and a proven administrative quality to bring that vision into reality.
(B) Disciplined, organised and passionate party workers.
(C)A positive attitude and also the capacity and guts to say what better they can do for the state instead of criticing the others.
But unluckily the opposition in Bengal does not have any of these . They should understand that times have changed and people expect the political parties to spell out their capabilities and their visions and a detailed roadmap in attaining those goals. The mass wants pragmatic commitments and wants to see the leader's capabilities in attaining those.

So True...
by shibashis on May 12, 2006 04:53 PM

the article is pretty to the point...and the results truly point 2 clear things...the strength of the CPI-M as a true party, and lack of clear credibly opposition. I doubt anybody in WB has any name in mind as an alternate Chief Minister !! Are the other political parties listening ??

I send my warm congratulations on the seven consequtive victory of the CPI(M) led Left Front.
My message is Left Front Govt. should do better work in West Bengal for the development of its people who are still poor and unemployed. Bengal be the agriculturally and industrially developed state like Maharashtra.I also congratulate Bengal CM Shri Buddhadev Bhattacharya for this landmark victory and hope under his dynamic leadership, Bengal will be an excellent example of developed state in the country in all fields like education, industry and agriculture.

WB Election: in response to a stupid and immatured article by Sumit Bhattacharya!!
by Somnath Mukherjee on May 12, 2006 04:44 PM

in response what Sumit Bhattacharya had written:
I understand you are one among those who are really disappointed to see such a landslide victory in Bengal! It's high time that people like you understand the reallity and not make comments like...
1) "Another reason for the mass base of the party is that in mofussil and rural Bengal, the CPI-M is the best career move you can make"
2) "Even in the remotest of villages, you will find a red flag and people who will talk of Tiananmen Square as a counter-revolutionary attempt by America. Talk to them about the lack of development and employment opportunities and they will chorus an answer drilled into them with the discipline of an army: 'The Centre does not give West Bengal funds.'"

If in the remotest villages in Bengal, people discuss about Tiananmen square then it shows political maturity of the people. It's utterly disgusting and also insulting to the matured mass of Bengal when you say "they will chorus an answer drilled into them with the discipline of an army"!!
