If there had been a little reliable candidates in the opposition parties there could have been a diffrent result.Had the people who wanted not to vote for left and voted for them saying that there is no alternative to a non serious candidates, then the margins would have been even lower. The demand for no candidate choice in the ballot paper is relevant here. had this been there then the real strength of the left would have come into picture.
I would like to appreciate your article. You have pointed out the jist in articulate way as to why CPIM holds its ground strong inspite of severe displeasure amongst most urbanites of kolkata.
Its not to judge the 'what if' factor with regards to the shift of power from CPIM to Opposition(who is that by the way?).For betterment of the State as a whole we all wish a strong opposition to come up so that the old hands of Red Army dont get complacent with repeated victories and work towards what is desired of them(i.e. overall developement of the state). We all want that Bengal back again- "what we think today,India should think tomorrow!!".And I dont care whether its CPIM or Opposition who make that happen.
A little more space for educated urbanites is necessary. Most educated kolkatan;s are now forced NRI's due to lack of proper opportunity.Inspite of our full desire to contribute to the state's developement we are not being provided with the opportunity!!Sometimes I do feel that CPIM is shifting village population into the cities(albeit slowly) and moving the city dwellers out to other states/countries!!If i am right , this is a dangerous trend!!Capturing city votes, this way!!!
Try for once to come out of your rabid pro-right slant, try reading the message on the wall in Bengal for yourself honestly, least to say, once. Stop trying to cling to 'overall thin margin' rhetoric, have a look at the statistics available now. Why do you have to shy away calling the Left the right in Bengal and now in Kerala too? Call a spade a spade with conviction! Do accept that voters in Bengal do not vote to your tunes! They have their own very valued experience, which translates into such a massive win in spite of the EC's unprecedented dictates. Be garceful in congratulating the Left for this historic, virtually unparalled fete.
What is it the communists are harping about?CPM and CPI are not all India parties as they do not have a presence in some states and they have only sigle digit presence in some.As per WE THE PEOPLE OF INDIA there are only 2 parties in India, CONGRESS and BJP.All others including CPI, CPM various Dals all are state parties and local;ised in some pockets. Why should these "Chotoos" make such noise on petrol price, foreign policy, defence and other national subjects? It is high time that EC amends the rules of recognition of parties to be recognised as national parties.
In my opinion, just one sentence adequately summarizes the message from Bengal. "Don't mess with Bengal!".
You may not understand Bengal, but don't try to oversimplify it by extending your knowledge of Maharashtra or Tamil Nadu. I hope, all those "brilliant" IAS officers will now rush back to the Library, to learn more about the mass movements in 50s and 60s, that shaped the present-day Bengal.
Mr. Tandon, Mr Gopalaswamy, and even Mr. K.J. Rao will be replaced with another set of "outstanding", almost heroic type of bureaucrats by 2011. It will not surprise me, if they feign again the same kind of ignorance in 2011, and pretend and behave like these current set of distinguished EC bureaucrats never existed in history. The free, democratic media will again parrot their genuine "Robin Hood" type bravery. This we have seen many times before. However, in my humble opinion they will need to hire their own set of voters for Bengal if they are desparately seeking a change to prove "democracy".
CPM has planned its success well 1. Brainwashed lot of people and form CPM cadre 2. Not let other views tolerated in society 3. Cadre will not let dissenting people vote
No one can explain CPM rule with the following 1. Nearing Bihar in stature and growth 2. All manufacturing plants shut down 3. Growth of Bengal is stunted 4. No incumbancy factor ever affects them
Need election commission to be totally vigilant and army should have been brought in ( just as in case of Bihar). The number would have been atleast 50% of what they have got now (considering the cadre and brain washed team).
By the way my family was not allowed to Vote and many more who were there in Bengal for more than 10years, in assumption that we will not vote CPM(at that moment we ourselves were not sure whom to Vote).
Purely honest personal opinion - not meant to hurt any body.
